Summer in Milwaukee means festivals around the lakefront, and the biggest of these has always been Summerfest.
Held since 1968, and at its current location in Milwaukee since 1970, Summerfest – The Big Gig – has hosted music from all genres and genres. In recent years, it has expanded to include a children’s theater, hundreds of dining options, fireworks and the 23,000-seat Mark Amphitheater. Summer is usually from the Wednesday before 4th-July to the weekend after. One day the park is closed, giving 11 day of summer fun.
Summerfest, already a festival founded by Henry Maier (named after the mayor of Milwaukee, who conceived the idea after visiting Germany’s Octoberfest), includes 11 levels of comedy going from country to country. In addition, the smaller musicians in the small streets often play on the grassy areas along the paved roads. There is also a great story entertaining children and children shows suitable for all ages for family visitors, and a sports area showcasing sports clubs and sports groups in area With the exception of the Überschrift shows in M., all the scenes at the Summerfest grounds are free of charge.
The first time I went to High School, I was called by two girls with a car. It was fun, and I tried to go for many years. The stages have free musicians in all genres (each stage is set up with musical taste in mind, allowing the visitor to find a place to hang out all day), and each one has a highlight of the evening. Some of the free levels feature heavy cover bands in another venue.
During the day, the performers usually put on local bands, or smaller well-known groups on the road. Some daytime actors can be just as ugly (others, to be honest, not so much). I remember playing “Demon Went Down to Georgia” so I thought it was the Charlie Daniels Band on stage, but it was actually a local group. They had a huge crowd.
Over the years, especially in the evenings, it seems that the number of people at Summerfest has increased more for the beer (a lot of beer) than the music. Some of these get out of trouble and take away the enjoyment of the rest. Fortunately, there are always other bands on other levels, and with only a couple of exceptions it’s easy for the people there to make music to separate themselves from the people there to drink.
