When Miranda Lambert released her album Kerosene, radio programmers refused to play her country songs. The lyrics seemed too intense and controversial, as he addresses the ex-boyfriend “Forget your high society/I’m soakin’ in kerosene”.
I’m not writing about angels, Jesus, happy fathers day, kids. I grew up in drinkin’, cheatin’, corrupt love”, he explained in Contemporary Musicians. Apparently, the public does not hesitate to listen to his songs, like Kerosene< /i> in the head of country music album sales chart.
Surprisingly, Lambert’s inspiration for that “love song gone bad” was not so much from a low life as what was given (romance with to husband Blake Shelton (seems straight from a fairy tale), but more so from women who have fallen into their parents’ business.
Rick and Beverly Shelton were helping the family with payments from a private detective agency that often served abused women. A young Miranda learned how women were hurt by men who were supposed to love them, and channeled her rage into such revenge songs as “Gunpo and Lead.”
Lambert also took his message about abusive people into the public arena by criticizing the Grammys for a statue honoring Chris Brown, the singer best known for beating up his girlfriend Rihanna.
“Put a good image now, put it on Twitter,” Lambert told the crowd at the University of Massachusetts. “I’ve been in a world of hurt with Chris Brown fans lately … but look, I just want to talk because where I come from, I’ve never beaten a woman well.” (New York Daily News)
