Motel Review: Motel 6 in Niantic, Connecticut – A Good Room that Won’t Break the Bank

Those looking for a good hotel room under $75 near Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun Casino in southeastern Connecticut have more limited choices.

The Motel 6 in Niantic, Connecticut is proving to be a great choice for anyone looking for a place to sleep at night without breaking the bank.
Me and my girlfriend decided to head up to Foxwoods to play some bingo and stay the night at a local hotel to rest before hours. The journey the next day.

Question

While expensive hotels are nice, we agreed that it would be better to find a cheap motel when we only want to stay. one night and neither of us has much money.

After looking online through reviews from websites like Orbitz, Hotels.com, and Trip Advisor, I had several negative comments about cheap motels in the area from chains and independent motels that I first thought would be good places to stay.

I stayed at several chains including Red Roof Inn, Quality Inn/Comfort Suites, Days Inn, America’s Best Inn and Suites, Super 8, Knight Inn, and Best Western.

However, I think those motels generally offer good value for money, although the accommodations can be quite basic.

I have to admit that finding a motel near Interstate 95 is much more difficult than finding one near a casino where the prices tend to be higher.

I looked online and found a Motel 6 on Niantic exit 74, near the intersection of Interstate 95 and 395.

Ironically, I’ve driven past this motel thousands of times on and off the job, but I’ve never set foot in the hotel or outside of it, I’ve only seen a large sign visible from the road.

The motel is also known as “New London-Niantic” location #1063.

It received positive reviews from guests, photos of the hotel’s exterior and cameras looked nice, and the prices were affordable.

While it is cheaper to stay during the week, work commitments prevented me from going out on Thursday night, so me and my girlfriend decided to go on Friday night.

Reservations

I made a reservation through the Motel 6 website and received a special “Click 6: Web Bargains” offer, only for those who made their reservations online.

Click 6 is only available at participating Motel 6 locations and these rates are a few dollars cheaper than those found at Orbitz and Hotels.com.

Niantic Motel 6 offers customers three online options, all at the same price: 1) Standard 2 Full Beds, Smoking, Table, 19″ Television, 2) Standard Queen Bed, Non-Smoking, Table, 19″ Televisions, 3). Standard Queen Bed, Smoking, Table, 19″ Television.

As a non-smoker, I chose the second option which, according to the situation, would cost $50.39 plus 10 percent in taxes.

You have the option to give comments or preferences if you have any requests for your room.

I found making reservations on the website quite easy after creating a My Motel 6 account where your personal information is stored securely and available any time you want to make a reservation.

The Motel 6 directory indicates that rates at the Niantic motel vary per person at a time.

From May 1 to May 22 rates vary from $39 to $49.99 Sun. through Thurs. and $49 to $65.99 for Fri. and Sat.

From 23 to Sept. 1, rates vary from $49 to $55.99 Sun. through Thurs. and Sat. they vary from $85 to $95.99.

From Sept. 22 to Dec. 31, rates vary from $39 to $49.99 Sun. through Thurs. and Sat. they vary from $69 to $79.99.

A $6 surcharge applies to the second person.

Walk-In Guests

The motel has a walk-in number for guests who see the chain name and a red LED display with the price clearly displayed on a large sign visible from I-95.

In the evening we stayed, the price for one person showed $49.99, while in the morning the price for one person rose to $59.99.

It is clearly cheaper to make your reservations in advance online with Rate 6 Click.

When entering the motel, we immediately saw that the lobby was closed inside the building, and a direct sign for the reservation people to go up to the interior .

Check in

An older female clerk greeted me immediately after entering the motel door.

After I had to explain my reservations to him, he asked me to show my driver’s license (which I had to put in a metal drawer similar to the one worn by the state police), and to write an essay as well as a description of my vehicle.

The monitor in the lobby showed images of four security cameras and we had mixed feelings about whether this security would make me feel safe or whether I would stay in a motel anything but safe. I don’t know why this is because the motel is in a good neighborhood and I haven’t seen any vandalism, graffiti, broken windows or doors.

It turned out to be a pretty safe motel and right after the check in process me and my girlfriend found three vending machines with many choices of snacks and drinks.

When I made my reservation, I had preferred a room on the first floor in order to have luggage to carry up the stairs, the clerk politely told me that the only non-smoking room on the first floor was an upgraded room with a wardrobe. leo for $3 more.

If not, I could have a place on the second floor; He agreed to pay us $3 extra.

Hotel Foundations

After we walked outside, we saw a “Brand New Room” sign and noticed that most of the motel rooms have exterior corridors.

We saw the motel pool outside; This obviously covered the fact that the March weather in Connecticut is a bit cold for the pool.

Those who are going in the summer should know to go to the pool through the walking parking lot where pool goers can enjoy a view of Interstate 95.
The motel also had truck parking and a coin laundry.

They allow customers to bring one well-behaved pet, but interestingly enough we saw no pet hair or sounds of care staying among us.

I drove my vehicle around the back of the motel and pulled into a comfortable, well-lit parking lot that was pretty full on a Friday night.

The car was quite comfortable and we got a spot right next to the room door.

Room

When he entered the room, we felt a strange smell, at first I thought it was necessary, but later I realized that it was not and that it could have been cleaner for household use.

There was definitely no smoke and the bathroom fan was helping to air out the room a little.

The room was bigger than we expected and had a large desk with card slots, a small table, two comfortable chairs, one 19″ television with 18 cable channels and late night television I enjoy it, I can tell you that all the networks have broadcast as well. HBO, HBO, Cartoon Network, and the Weather Channel, which unfortunately was a national feed and didn’t offer the local forecast I was used to getting at home.

The channel is called Mystv Studios Tourism Television, http://www.mystv.com/index.html, a 24-hour, 7-day channel with segments of tourists designed to familiarize themselves with the Mystique region.

The room had a phone book but no Bible like most hotel rooms do.

A light wall mounted above the bed and vibrated, the room not having a clock> or a box of Kleenex. but the toilet and shower were bigger than we expected.

The bathroom comes with two complimentary bars of soap but no complimentary shampoo.

A small mini-fridge with a microwave sat on the floor with a clock on top.

It comes in handy when we buy lemonade from a vending machine in it.

The small unit features satellites to hang your clothes and the small collapsible unit allows you to place your suitcase in it.

The light is a little yellow in the shower and the bath had no rust and was quite clean and shiny to it.

The shower seemed to be built for two people and the ability to use it as a two-person tub.

The sink and peripatetics, outside the room with toilet and shower, were also quite large.

Both Friday night and the following Saturday morning, the room was very quiet without the sounds of people talking; kids screaming, or vehicle doors slamming.

There was only one window in the room that you couldn’t open, but because it was cold outside, there was nothing that worked just like the heat and the heat was fine.

While the mattress was a bit hard and the pillows were very thin and soft, we were able to sleep well.

To prevent

Check in lasted until 11 a.m., and the process was pretty smooth, even though me and my girlfriend were running a few minutes late.

The lobby was then open, there was no line, and since there was no breakfast, free coffee was available.

The clerk, who was a nice young man, quickly ran the bill, which with the taxman was $66.07.

He asked me if I wanted a copy and I said yes and he made one with the Motel 6 Director of Motel 6 locations all over the country.

He also asked how my room was, and I told him it was very good.

We were completely satisfied with the room, and while it wasn’t perfect, it was clean, quiet, and spacious.

What was missing

Absent from motel amenities are obviously only seen in larger hotels such as hair dryers, no Pay-Per-View movies, and no ease of exercise. There is a small charge for wireless Internet unlike some motels like Super 8 which has free service. Apparently the motel does not have conference facilities. If you want the amenities I mentioned, look elsewhere but expect to pay more. After all, nothing is really free.
