Mother’s Day Games and Activities – Mother’s Day Treasure Hunt

This might sound really corny, but a treasure hunt on Mother’s Day is always great fun! It’s a great way to bring the family together, and the kids love finding hidden objects/pictures/prints etc and “helping” Mom!

Treasure Hunt needs a bit of preparation beforehand. Children applying adults must first decide what kind of treasures to hide, as well as mom. he found her. It is not a treasure nor is it expensive. A promise from a child that ‘I will clean the bathroom a week/month/year’ is given more meaning. how about anything!!

Ideas for the Treasury

Ideas for ‘treasure’ could include;

1. Mothers Day card and pictures drawn by children.

2. Photographs of the children and their mom

3. Audio tapes/cds of kids reading poems or telling a story.

4. a bunch of flowers / or plants

5. An ornament made by children – or the actual thing!

6. tsjocolatane – cos all Moms love chocolate

7. author for e.g. hairdos, beauty treatments, book/garden/film authors.

8. Pledges made by the kids – like ‘I will do the dishes every day for a week’, or, even harder, ‘I will save my room’!

9. Vouchers for babysitting – so Mom and Dad can have a night off.

It is best to get the kids to draw pictures/ Write poems and stories two days in advance. Then the night before Mother’s Day, get all the family together, send Mom the evening and start. Plan and plan how and where to store your treasure.

Name one responsible person to write down where each item of treasure is hidden. Just in case something is lost! Then write the kids on the paper to be in the colored pieces.

Clues could be rhymes, e.g. in the kitchen, near the chair, there is something special for the hair…….or it could be written out so that mommy laughs – e.g. hidden in the messiest room in the house, the bit that is never cleaned…….or ‘where I sometimes hide my sandwiches’……

It is recommended that one card be used for each clue. On Mother’s Day you can either give mom all the cards at once or give her a card only when she finds the last item!

Then hide the items in special hiding spots. Make sure that an adult is watching in all the hiding places. Then make sure that all the children go to sleep in the morning so that they have a good night’s sleep before Mother’s Day. You don’t want kranky cos kids!!!

The next morning, on mother’s mother, give mom in bed. Put all the clues for that Treasure Hunt in the breakfast tray. Wait for the fun to begin!
