On November 15, 1966, reports of a huge and shiny creature with wings appeared in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. For several months it was the beginning of things to be seen and admired by the people of Sweet Point. It was also rumored to be connected to the collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967, which left 46 dead… 2 of whom are missing.
The blockbuster movie The Mothman Prophecies, is based on John Keel’s book of the same name published in 1975.
Many now think that the events reported at the time were the events of mass hysteria in a small town of 200 inhabitants.
Many theories are discussed in Loren Coleman’s new book, “Mothman and Other Curious Encounters.”
events that happened so many years ago can always be a mystery. But it must be admitted that of the 46 men who died on the bridge, only 44 bodies were recovered in the collapse. Two bodies are still missing, Point Pleasant residents Kathy Byus and Maxine Turner.
Are the bodies of these two women still lost somewhere under the waters of the Ohio River? Or have they been recovered in another town down the river… and lie somewhere among the dead?
The tent girl died at about the same time… and remained unknown for 30 years! www.TentGirl.com
Currently (as of July 31, 2006) there are more than 1,091 doe cases and over 110,995 missing persons registered with the NCIC. But experts said that this is only 10%-50% of the actual numbers. Not all cases are submitted to the NCIC. – (For the latest update, please check Lost and Found. www.LFGRC.org
Several other cases were solved many decades later. For example… Candace Clothier.
Clothier was found and killed at Tarentum. There were similar circumstances in the case of Temptation, and in one point, the two cases were considered very related.
Although the confirmation of the connection with the Tent Girl case has yet to be determined, there are still several reasons to be explored.
Could the bodies of Kathy Byus and Maxine Turner have been carried away after the bridge collapse?
Perhaps in Letitia Luna.
In August of 2000, Letizia’s vehicle was found near the Hernando De Soto Bridge in Memphis, TN. A search of the area and the river “running” revealed no results of its own.
A Jane Doe was found several miles down a “river” in the state of Kentucky after Letitia’s death.
After the year 2001 in August of Kentucky state medical examiner Dr. Emily Craig researched the Jane Doe case online. He found descriptive information about Letitia who found Jane Doe in Kentucky.
Letitia’s body was found in a so-called “duck pool” connected between two riverboats that seem to have taken it to Kentucky.
The Ohio River begins in western Pennsylvania at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers in Pittsburgh.
Could the bodies have washed up on the ground somewhere along this route… all the way to the Pittsburgh area?
In a related note … Sherry Yearsley … a survivor of the collapse of the Silver Bridge was recently found dead.
Near eastbound I-80 in Sparks, Nevada, near railroad tracks, the partially clothed body of Sherry Marie Yearsley, 47, was found on June 21, 2002.
Passengers were spotted on a passing train and contacted by the authorities. The police found the murder victim Yearsley and dumped his body yesterday.
At the time of his death, Annisley was living with his mother in Reno. County records indicated that Yearsley was granted a license in 1996 to marry Alfred Alsvary, who was in custody at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in May 2002 on drug charges. It was uncertain if he had ever married the two.
Many other survivors of the tragedy later became victims of mysterious circumstances… coincidence?
