A woman of all ages will easily convince her men to watch The Scout Game. Younger women will want to see Brad Pitt and their old favorite Robert Redford. Everyone wins as a movie that people will also enjoy.
Nathan Muir (Robert Redford) is about to retire from the CIA when his superiors recall him to be in charge of an operation. When Nathan originally recruited Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) as an agent and worked closely with him, the CIA wants to hear everything he knows about Nathan Bishop. Flashbacks show that he was doing well until Bishop formed a romantic relationship with Englishwoman Elizabeth Hadley, who had recently been imprisoned in a Chinese prison for a past scandal against her country. It is a delicate matter because the United States is about to enter a new trade with China and Bishop. The connection to Hadley is called into question.
Nathan Bishop remains loyal, even though Bishop has left his job and has become something of a rogue operator due to his relationship with Elizabeth Hadley. When the Bishop is also taken into custody by the Chinese, Nathan realizes that his superiors are seeking information about the Bishopric, which will justify allowing the Bishop to be killed by the Chinese, saving future trade with the United States.
It’s fun to see the cat-and-muse games from Nathan as he deceives his superiors, documents under his slip coat, and the U. S. Navy Seals may join forces to claim both Elizabeth Hadley and Tom Bishop who were imprisoned in a Chinese prison. Robert Redford has lost none of his cool. It is the casting that these men, Redford or Pitt, touches the heart of the female audience more deeply.
At the risk of spoiling it for readers, I would like to mention the beautiful ending. Early in the game, when Nathan and Bishop were familiar, Bishop took Nathan to dinner on his birthday and presented him. with a bottle of whiskey The bishop jokingly called the dinner about the evening’s work. In the final scene of the film, we see a helicopter saved by a Navy SEAL Bishop, his face rubbed above recognition. The pilot remembers a rescue mission incidentally called Operation Lunch Out. The bishop then noticed that his old friend was the one responsible for taking him from execution to prison.
As a woman, we don’t often watch action and war movies which I usually appeal to men, but for me to do. in this case because of the star exception. And I certainly got my money.
