If you are going to be new parents of a newborn this coming winter season, congratulations! No doubt, you have been preparing and shopping in preparation of your new little one for months now. For the winter months, you may want to consider some of the items listed below that I consider must-haves to keep your newborn comfy and warm this winter season.
#1 winter must have for newborn-(warm hat) Remember the advice of your mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and never take your baby out in the cold without a hat on. It is a fact, that 90% of your body heat escapes through the head. Therefore a nice warm cap is the number one essential in my book. Whether they are store bought, hospital borrowed, or hand knit by grandma, a new parent can never have too many baby hats. Check out a cute, warm, baby hat I found at Toys “R” Us/Babies “R” Us. #2 winter must have for newborn- (fleece cover)– Without a doubt, you will be wanting to show your newborn off to family and friends, so you’ll need to think about traveling in the car with your newborn this winter. Visit Baby’s Cozy World Microfiber and Fleece Cover – Camel color : Target for $19.99. This is the perfect item to have to keep your baby warm in the car this winter. It’s elasticized edges fit nicely over the car seat. It’s machine washable which is convenient for the mom and dad. The cover keeps the rain, sleet, snow and wind away from the baby until you get inside. Another great thing about this item is that it won’t blow off in the wind and leave your baby exposed to the elements outside. It also has a face cover you can lift and see baby without having to remove the cover, and you can roll up the flap so the baby can see out. The neutral color is great for either gender. I think this makes a great addition to your winter gear for your new baby.
#3 winter must have for newborn-(sleep sack)- $24.95-The sleep sack is a great alternative to keep your baby warm in bed in the winter, without risking the use of heavy bedding which has been proven to increase the risk of ::: SIDS-Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. A sleep sack is the newest item to replace the blanket. It’s basically a wearable blanket that zips up and is placed over the pajamas. At Baby in a Bag, you can find this item for $24.95 and up. It is made of 100% cotton. The baby sleep sack also is great for preventing your baby from kicking off it’s covers which results is baby getting cold. Another great must have for your newborn this winter. The baby sleep sack makes a perfect shower gift for a winter baby.
#4 winter must have for newborn-(plenty of warm socks and mittens)- Plenty of warm socks and mittens are a given for your newborn’s warmth during the cold winter months ahead. The baby’s feet and hands, like the head should be covered in cold months, lest you risk your baby catching a cold. Wal-mart has plenty of quality warm socks from well known brands such as Gerber to choose from at low prices. You can get a pack of 6 terry baby socks for $7.00 and multiple mittens for approx. $6.00.
#5 winter must have for newborn-(flannel/waterproof sheet for crib)- No one likes to lay on a cold bed. Nor will your baby appreciate a cold sheet. On clearance now at Walmart for $15.00, you can buy this flannel/waterproof top sheet for your baby’s crib. The waterproof flannel top is made of 100% brushed cotton, and the sides are made of 100% jersey cotton. This product fits all standard size crib mattresses 28″ by 52″. It’s convenient because you’re getting a 2 in 1 combination of a sheet and waterproof liner. This item is durable and is dryer friendly and is not supposed to dry out or crack when used in the dryer. That’s a great feature!
