Worship music, more than anything else, brings me into the presence of God. Although God’s presence is always there, when I come, I almost feel God’s tender embrace. It’s such a force that sometimes I can’t help but feel God’s presence and love pour over me as I worship. I was refreshed, encouraged, and even healed emotionally and spiritually on a level as I worship God through music.
Although there are many Christian music who write and worship songs, Chris Tomlin is one of my favorites. His poems are simple, but profound. They are also usually easy to sing with which makes them great for corporate worship. In fact, each of the 10 songs listed below is sung regularly in my church on Sunday mornings, and each one of them impacts my life in individual times of body and worship.

Why is it significant: It rebukes my spirit when I think of the God of the universe as being more intently involved in the details of my life. On top of that, I must never question his love, never fear that I might somehow lose his love; it is constant and indefatigable. There is a great deal of security in God’s unfailing, unconditional love.

Why is it significant: Everything that is good in my life, in all my abilities and skills, is only possible because of the gifts, abilities and opportunities that God has given me. Why is it significant: Clean hands (which signify pure actions) and pure hearts do not come naturally to anyone. True purity and holiness are not based on perfect behavior, but are made as lives yield and are transformed by a holy God. Since I cannot obtain clean hands and a clean heart by myself, it is significant and absolutely vital to ask God to give me clean hands and a clean heart.

Why significant: God’s grace is what allows me to stand before Him without fear. His grace is sufficient, because it frees me from guilt and shame, which otherwise I could stand in his presence.

Why is it significant: It is full of uncertain life. The only true stability in the universe is God who never changes. His promises are always true; There is no need to worry about them being true one day and false the next. I can rest in his steadfast love, knowing that his word will never fail.

Lyric snippet: Unspeakable, incomprehensible, you have placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name. God is wonderful. Incomparable, unchangeable, You see the depth of my heart, and you love me. You are wonderful God.
Why is it significant: This is probably a Chris Tomlin poem. It is filled with beautiful imagery and sentiment, and it reminds me of how wonderful God really is. It also reminds me of that God knows every dirty little secret tucked away in the secret corners of my heart. and yet he loves me as much as he would if I were perfect.

Why is it significant: When I listen to or sing this song, I remind myself that wherever I go, God’s presence and glory is there with me. It fills every corner of the earth. where there is no one in the world who can separate me from my face and glory. This is especially meaningful to me when traveling in foreign countries, far from home.
