My Path to My First Greencard

When I first came to the USA, I was only a visitor and my time was short. We have no plans for marriage. When my husband from Alabama wanted to “test” me for the first time, to see how I would do it, knowing how very different this life was compared to living in Germany. I was able to stay for 90 days, during which we found a house. After a few weeks of living together, we got married. That’s when the problems begin.

We had about a month to get all the immigration papers together and we were overwhelmed. We pushed the package out of its place, but quickly realized we couldn’t do it on our own. After some research we found a company to help us with the paperwork for about $800 dollars.

They informed us that our immigration fees were fluctuating because not only was my husband serving in the military for several years, but also because we didn’t really have the money for it when we just started our lives with him. to scratch

After a few weeks our paper came back. We had to pay the fees. In terms of immigration, we still had too much money. With the help of some family we reached with the amount, all the copies were issued with birth certificates, capital records. , financial records and extensive family histories are recalled for immigration.

He returned again. This telling time we my husband does not make enough money to feed me now find a sponsor for me, my husband’s aunt. Ninety days were already long, but now I decided to stay in limbo, so that I could stay in the country.

After we got married, I was not allowed to change my last name since I had no social security number at the time. When we applied for my Greencard, we were told that I needed to apply under a male name, but once I got social. security number, we were able to call in a service request to change my name. At first they were overthrown, but at least everything was finally on the way.

I had a physical with a certain doctor an hour away to get my shots updated and have my documents sent to immigration. After that, drive the same space for more pictures and fingerprints. The clerk helping us that day put my name in married in the system which was only time, but when I accepted my work, it had a maiden name printed on it – with my married name.

Although I did not care, because now finally for social-security-disability-benefits”>social security card I was able to apply my name now. We called, just to make sure everything was working until when we were told that we had everything again. It will be necessary to redo the documents, and to pay several thousand dollars in fees again. But since we had to wait for the change of name just after two years. This process has been carried out for almost 10 months. My husband is educated in another state to explain when we finally got the interview set up.

I am very upset. Not only did I still not have my husband’s name, but my brother was about to get married and I needed to have all my documents ready in time to fly to Germany.

On behalf of my husband, my mother-in-law came to the interview with me. Everything worked fine and I asked “What name do you want on your Greencard? Your maiden name or your married name?” I was appalled. It seemed that no one there knew what to do, but I didn’t have enough time to change my passports anymore, as I was told to keep all my documents in the same name. I have to go through and get my Greencard in my maiden name.

After 11 months the process was finally done and I had my Greencard. But this was a first.
