National Gumdrop Day – February 15th

Gumdrop Day is celebrated every year on February 15th. Celebrate this deliciously sweet day by eating these colorful gelatin-based candies or using them to make wonderful gifts and crafts.

Gumdrops are well known for being an important ingredient in gingerbread houses, and they also make great cake and cupcake toppers.

Make a Gumdrop

Think you can’t make your own gumdrops? Think again, it’s not that hard. Take a look at bfeedme.com for a recipe for Orange Gumdrops. You will need vegetable oil, sugar, corn syrup, orange juice, powdered fruit pectin, baking soda, sugar and red food coloring.

Also note that you can make Grape Gumdrops by substituting grape juice for the orange juice and blue food color for the red. Apple-Cherry Gumdrops are made with apple-cherry drink instead of the orange juice and keep the red food color.

Taste of Home also offers a gumdrop recipe. For this recipe you will need sugar, applesauce, red or green gelatin, unflavored gelatin and lemon juice.
