There are quite a few people in this country who need help with groceries. With the price of food increasing day by day, it is sometimes difficult for low or even middle income families and older families to afford the amount of groceries needed to last a few weeks, let alone a whole month. There are many who do not know what kind of help they can get from their community, because they rely on the government to send them money and pray to cover the cost of their essential needs from month to month. But sometimes the help from the government is not always enough, especially for a single mother with two or three children who cannot work or simply cannot afford care child‘s long enough to find a job. They are all worried about how they are going to pay the doctors, the bills, and most importantly food for the children. I can’t pay your bills or your doctor’s bills but I have information on how to help with groceries. It’s called Angel Food Ministries.
This non-profit organization has helped provide food for over 500,000 families since February 1994. Angel Foods works with community organizations and churches in over 32 states to help alleviate the cost of groceries for people in need. What happens is that they give a menu for each month that contains enough items to fill an average box. Each menu is different each month, and you can have everything on the menu for just around $25 plus taxes in some states . They also have a “special” for each month. If you buy a menu you can choose a “special” that contains meat, such as steaks, pork, chicken for only $18. This amount can only feed one person for about a month and a family of 3 for about two or three weeks. The menu consists of frozen vegetables, chicken breasts, frozen meats, fruits, eggs, canned goods, and even desserts! These items are of the same quality as you would see in an grocery store. You probably think you have to qualify or fill out long applications, well, you don’t, and there’s no number of teams or specialty boxes you can buy.
Now you are wondering where to go and how much it will cost. More than likely a local church will hold this program and you will need to make a trip to the church to call and arrange your unit and pay by check, cash or food stamps The guest will then call in the order to the main office in Monroe, Georgia and several days later, Angel Food will deliver the order for you to pick up on the appointed day. Most of the population of sites will not deliver like the pizza shop does. You are requested to be there on the day of Distribution to collect your order with the appropriate boxes or baskets to fill. Distribution day is when volunteers and people from the church or camp come together to set up, clean, fill people’s boxes and baskets, help the elderly, and share the joy of helping others when they really need it most.
For volunteers it is a long day, families in need, this trip is short but well received, and perhaps the best “. While the joy of giving is exciting, the excitement of helping out is overwhelming.
