Sacramento’s image in the housing market has gone. Twenty-five percent of all available units are in foreclosure. Homes in North Natomas selling for $400,000 are now priced at a much better $235,000. Sellers had to reduce the asking price to a whopping 39.75 percent at least once. But lenders are finally tightening their requirements somewhat, making buying a home a much more difficult and considered option. When prospective buyers look at small lots and small square footage, they begin to explore other areas for a home.
Oak Park is the new kid on the block in terms of possibilities. Heavily promoted by the Oak Park Community Master Plan, and very attractively priced, Oak Park could emerge as one of the hottest areas for new real estate in the city. This is really something new to say in Sacramento. Oak Park has long been synonymous with crime. Everything from fixing, gang activity and drug dealing. Thanks to the Sacramento Police’s dedication to this area, crime has been greatly reduced, and police presence has increased. In the year in which I lived, I saw a diminutive scene of crime, and a great building of safety. Martin Luther King The owner of the boulevard has its own community plan, such that what was once a field for turf to be gradually developed into a pleasant and lovely place.
Sacramento’s first suburban area, Oak Park Street, once provided a pleasant place for families to live. It had once been a theater, a truce, a charming part of the community, and before its incorporation in 1911, its laber. Oak Park also has its own amusement park called Jolly. Never an ambitious neighborhood, Oak Park has always been a good working-class complex, as seen in its unfussy but strong architecture. Home at McGeorge School of Canon Law, and Christian Brothers Academy, in 1960 he began to decline into drugs. and poverty is only now slowly beginning to see adverse events.
One of the draws of potential buyers are big lots. Many homes in this area have larger lots than I’ve seen in a long time, which are still being sold within the first time home buyer. My house is located on a long lot, about 1/3 of an acre. garden room is abundant in me. Although many of the homes that were built in the 1940’s are small, the lot size provides ample space to build on or out. My neighborhood is much quieter than Natomas and much less crowded. I am minutes from downtown Sacramento and an easy drive to stores like Safeway, Raley’s, Starbucks and more.
Then there are the unique charms at Oak Park, like our tamale lady, who calls out at night “Yo aqui tamales” she The burning table maid He sells his tamales for $1.00 each and they are delicious. We have an Indian man who drives a truck and Belly-filling nachos. When you have two hungry boys.. if you can catch him. He sells some of the best wings around. Mr. Retia has a bag of these wings his ways though, and some days he’s glad to have hungry kids chasing him.
Oak Park is a risk, but I feel it is well received. If you are tired of looking at still slightly overpriced leather houses on tax stamp sized lots, come check out Oak Park. If you have vision and patience, Oak Park may well be the best home you will ever make.
