Oakley Minutes Are My First Choice in Sunglasses

Sunglasses come in many shapes, sizes, and qualities. I’ve always been one to be very attuned to lens quality. A pair of $15.99 specials off your basic sunglass rack will give me a headache within the hour. I’ve tried Ray-bans and liked them OK but felt I could do better, Serengeti is the absolute best but they don’t have the styles I like, so I started going with Oakley about 13 years ago. I’ve never looked back.

At first, I went with their Frogskin line of sunglasses and had a pair of the Razors also. When I found myself in need of a new pair (lost em, they didn’t break), I found they no longer even make my beloved Frogskin line. My daughter talked me into a pair of Minutes. She’s smart that way. At first I bought a pair of the navy blue ones and loved them, but they do not match all of my outfits... so what’s a girl to do with summer approaching? Why, buy another pair!

Off to Oakley.com I went and found they have a ton of colors that I wasn’t aware of. I went with the powder blue this time, but you can choose blacks (jet, pearl, metallic, or matte), root beer, tangerine print, platinum, gunmetal, pearl, blues (navy, powder, electric, crystal, tortoise), or regular tortoise shell. That’s a lot of choices. My powder ones ran $100 and that’s pretty cheap for a pair of Oakleys.

Oakley sez: We took the formulas for lens rake and XYZ Optics, trimmed the dimensions and honed the aesthetics. Condensed cranial geometry produces eyewear for smaller faces-because wind, UV and projectiles don’t sidestep the challenge of tighter targets. Optical acuity remains full scale with a wide-screen peripheral view.

Yep. That’s Oakley Minutes in a nutshell alright. They’re sleek and sexy. Perfect for a day at the beach, driving, or even skiing. They wrap, but not obtrusively so. I find the coverage on the Minutes to be perfect for my face.

I have the black iridium lenses, but you can also get these in the fire, ice, emerald, gold, or VR28 iridium lenses. What’s so special about Oakley lenses? I’ma tell ya…

Molecules in the lens absorb specific wavelengths of light, preventing them from reaching your eye. Iridium lens coatings allow you to tune transmission for specific light conditions. Superheated metal oxides are fused to the lens at the molecular level, permanently bonding to create an optically uniform layer. ~ oakley.com

These Iridium lenses allow only 10% light transmission and are made especially for sunny conditions. I love these lenses! These are the same lenses they used to put in the Frogskins and they are the best lenses I’ve found that also have the coolest frames to suit my taste. Like I said earlier, Serengeti may have better lenses in their Driver line, but the frame is bulky and made for a man… plus those will run you over $400. heh.

Take my advice and go with the Oakley line. I’ve ran various pairs over through the years and found the frames still intact. I’m not kidding you here. The one word of caution would be the lenses. Be careful not to scratch them. They are guaranteed for a year, but do be sure to clean them only with the bag they will come in. That is a specially designed cloth and is the best thing in the world for cleaning any glasses.

Don’t keep wasting your money on 4 pairs of $20 glasses every summer which will harm your eyes. Bite the bullet from the get-go and get a pair of Oakleys. They’re surprisingly comfortable. You will love me for it. 5 stars for Oakley. I love my Minutes!
