It’s getting colder outside and getting darker earlier, which always gets me thinking about the holidays. My favorite thing about the holiday season is the Christmas lights, I love walking around with my family looking at the different colors. Our favorite trip to make every year is to Oglebays Park in Wheeling, WV. This tradition began in 1985 and has been going strong ever since. So they have more than 300 acres of lights. It was a wonderful winter drive for six miles. Lights Winter Festival Lights has been listed in the Top Events of the International American Bus Association, it has been named as a top 100 event. by Eventcrazy.com, and was recently named one of the top 200 events in the country by Discover America. Every year they add new displays and even retire some of the old ones. You start by driving through the Snowflake tunnel, as well as several favorites from the past twelve days of Christmas, candy candies, together with Willard the snowman named for the weather TV Willard Scott who was involved in the lights in the years 1986 snoopy and the gang of pink peanuts with flamingos. It is a display of hearts for all. They also have different activities you would like to visit the lights; They have their own Christmas tree garden, which features thirty living trees decorated with all different features. They also have a good zoo that offers lots of things for children to see and do, they have porcupines, goats, reindeer and reptiles. This year he will show himself animated and choreographed to the exciting music of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Also seen is the O-Gauge Model Railroad, its over 1000 square feet. There are seven specialty shops offering all kinds of unique birthday ornaments and collectibles. They have amazing restaurants offering buffets at night.
The winter festival of lights is a nightly spectacle from dusk to 11:00 p.m. A via car donation is requested and is valid for the entire holiday period. Trolley tours are offered several times each night starting at the Wilson Lodge. Seats are sold on the day of the tour only, first come, first served. This is a really great family night trip you won’t regret. There is nothing more magical then seeing the kids’ eyes light up through the various displays. Be prepared to sit in the market for a while during the week, most people wait in line for 3 hours, but it’s really worth it. They play Christmas music while your there and the car radio can be enjoyed for about a mile. So while you’re waiting in line you can sing a few Christmas carols. Make sure you take your camera, the pictures will turn out amazing and you will always remember how great it was. You won’t be rushing through the park and you won’t be able to stop at each parade and take your time admiring it. The festival starts on November 8, 2006 and runs through January 7, 2007, you can visit as many times as you want, and it only costs one time donations, I believe it was $10.00 last year, which was worth it to me one time. not to mention being able to return more.
