Oktoberfest 2009 in Lake Worth, Florida

For the last thirty-six years the American German Club Of The Palm Beaches has held its annual Oktoberfest. This event is very anticipated by locals and tourists alike. It is one of the largest Oktoberfests in the country located on over ten acres.

This year’s wonderful festival will prove to be fun for the whole family with food, music, arts and crafts and traditional German festivities. With this wonderful Bavarian celebration of beer there are also plenty of good times and activities for everyone to enjoy.

Inclement weather should not be a concern because the function is held entirely under a huge pavilion and tent. Often Florida has unexpected showers to this makes it nice for everyone to not have to worry about packing their rain gear.

The American German Club was formed by several men who wanted to rejoice in their ethnic background and share with others of similar interests. They formed the club by just a meeting of friends but the popularity soon grew by leaps and bounds. Before they realized it there was over 550 members. In 1974 they decided to hold their very first Oktoberfest. The members outdid themselves because it was a huge hit and it fast become a yearly popular event.

Every year the members still come together to hold their wonderful Oktoberfest for the public so everyone can share in the joys of a Bavarian heritage and learn about a different culture. Its a time of great pride for club members. This Oktoberfest has been named one of the best in the nation due to their hard work and diligence.

Each Oktoberfest the music is anxiously awaited because it will be made up of not only local musical talent but the club also flies in true German musicians to perform in the old traditions. This is a wonderful and unique way to enjoy talent from around the world. This year they will be featuring Bayerisch Bluat and the Heldensteiner. Both of these bands have been leading performers at the Munich Oktoberfest. Its the perfect opportunity to kick up your heels. You can learn the polka or have fun with the chicken dance. Everyone feels the urge to jump up and dance at this fun Oktoberfest

The dates for this year will be October 9th,10th,11th and then will resume October 16th,17th, and 18th.

The hours are Friday 5pm-11pm, Saturday 12am-11pm, and Sunday 12pm-8pm.

There will be free parking for over 2,000 cars.

The entire event is handicap accessible. There is also handicap parking available.

This year everyone is encouraged to enter a raffle for an all expense paid trip to Germany for two.

Every year the festivities are kicked off with the annual tapping of the keg. There will also be parades to set the mood. The parade of flags is a lovely event to watch. Everyone will be in authentic costumes for the guests to enjoy the true feeling of being in Bavaria.

There will be plenty of good food to choose from plus authentic beers for everyone to sample and enjoy. This Oktoberfest is promising to be quite huge so please try to arrive early for the best parking opportunities.

Towns that are close with a wide range of lodging opportunities are Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, and West Palm Beach.
