Ol’Roy’s dog food is a brand sold at Wal-Mart but sometimes shows up in dollar stores, grocery stores near Wal-Marts and thrift stores. A brand named after Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton. It is highly unlikely that the original Ol’ Roy ever ate this food, which is good, because the food lacks nutritional value. required or honorable ingredients.
More Than Junk Dog Food
If there was one order smaller than junk food, it would be Ol’ Roy. Perhaps “rotten soup” is a better description than “junkfood”. In a comprehensive review by Whole Dog Journal (the “Consumer Digest” for dog products), Ol’ Roy was given the lowest rating. Over at HappyPetDog.com, a dog product rating site, Ol’ Roy is also pushing daily dog owner workers to the animal shelter.
Why did he push so hard? Because of cheap ingredients, including plenty of artificial ingredients, corn syrup, other forms of sugars, water and cosmetics. Many dogs suffer from allergies to these drugs. Many dogs also suffer from great pain, which is what a dog will become if the bulk of his diet is Ol’ Roy.
Searchable Protein Sources
The regulations governing pet food are notoriously loose and difficult to understand. In America, the pet food industry is regulated by the American Association of Regulatory Regulators, Inc. (AAFCO.) Despite the pictures of fresh meat and vegetables on the lid of a dog food bag, the food itself may contain less than 2 percent of those drugs. Many pet foods like Ol’ Roy use meat and bone meal as their main sources of protein.
What are these? These are usually waste areas from the butcher’s floor, made into a paste and then either cooked to place in the can or cooked to last in the kible. According to AAFCO, meat and bone meal can include bones, manure, whatever is in the intestines, hair, hides, horns, hooves and any other body tissues.

Dogs are not too picky when it comes to food. They will eat Ol’ Roy because it is so loaded with sugar, salt and artificial sweeteners. It’s the same with children and Twinkies. Twinkies love to eat every day, but their bodies are not sure. Junk dog food like Ol’ Roy tends to be digested with little effort, so it fills up the dog’s stomach and then leaves more quickly. Dogs eating cheap foods like Ol’ Roy poop a lot more than dogs eating far more nutritious foods like Halo.
Ol’ Roy should only be given to dogs if no other food is available. But even cooking a dog achicken breast and brown rice is going to give better nutrition than that.
