Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners

Ever since I was a little kid, I have been a huge fan of hot dogs. On a regular basis, I purchase and eat several different brands and types of frankfurters, including Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners. These high quality hot dogs are very tasty and I think they would be a good item to review.

Presented here, as a service to the consumer at large, is an article which reviews and examines Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners.

Size
The net weight of the standard sized package of Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners is 16 ounces.
The package contains ten wieners, as opposed to many other brands that contain only eight franks.

Price
The regular retail price charged for one 16 ounce package of Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners at West Hartford, Connecticut area food retailers varies.

At one major supermarket the regular price is $3.49 per package, while at another, the regular price is $3.99. For almost a year now, I’ve been purchasing these wieners at my neighborhood Walgreens Pharmacy, where the regular price is $3.29. That works out to roughly $0.33c per link.

Texture / Consistency
These frankfurters feature a pleasing texture that makes eating them always enjoyable. The outer skin is nice and tight, somewhat reminiscent of a smoked sausage and the interior is nice and chewy and not at all mushy. The overall mouth feel offered by Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners is quite satisfying.

Nutritional Facts
Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners contain 130 calories, with 110 calories from fat, per one link (45 grams) serving. These excellent franks also contain 4 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 12 grams total fat, 35 mg of cholesterol, 380 mg of sodium, less than 1 gram total carbohydrates and 5 grams of protein, per one link serving.

Taste / Flavor
Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners offer a unique flavor that is very appealing. To me, this variety of wiener is the quintessential all-American hot dog.

These wieners are made from chicken, pork and turkey. Only recently did I learn that, when I happened to look closely at the product label. For years, I’ve been eating these franks and I assumed that they were beef franks.

The flavor of these franks is hearty and they are nicely seasoned. On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign these wieners a seldom-assigned 10.

Packaging
Hats off to Oscar Mayer, for the great packaging that they provide with Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners. The ten links are arranged in two groups of five each in heavy duty clear plastic pouches, which open and reclose easily. Each pouch features a snap-shut closure that helps to keep the links nice and fresh and prevent spillage of liquid.

A largely yellow paper label is attached to the plastic pouches. The front features the iconic white and red Oscar Mayer logo as well as an illustration of a ketchup and relish topped wiener in a roll. The rear label lists all relevant ingredient and nutritional information.

Overall Rating
All things considered, Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners are very tasty hot dogs. When I don’t purchase and eat this brand of franks, I often substitute with bargain priced franks. Although some of the bargain franks are quite good, I usually find myself pining for Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners.

An important factor that makes me such a big fan of these wieners is their consistent high quality. With bargain priced franks, I sometimes wonder about their quality, but not so with Oscar Mayer Products.

Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners are a highly recommended product.
