A few weeks ago, my wonderful Father brought over a container of Oscar Mayer Hard Salami for me to eat. Although I have been eating Genoa and cooked salami for years, I don’t think I had ever eaten hard salami before receiving this gift from my Father. I must say, I’m very glad that I’ve had the opportunity to try this salami. Its flavor, texture and overall high quality have compelled me to write a review of this item.
Presented here, in an effort to assist the consumer, is one food writer’s product review of Oscar Mayer Hard Salami.
Size
The net weight of the standard – sized package of Oscar Mayer Hard Salami is eight ounces. According to the product’s nutrition label, the package contains eight 1 slice servings of salami. I think that this serving size is realistic. Most of the time, when I’ve eaten this product, one slice on a piece of bread has been just the right – sized serving. In physical size, each piece of this salami measures approximately 3.25 ” x 3.25″. Even though the slices are not huge in diameter, a lot of flavor and texture are packed into each slice.
Price
The regular retail price charged for one eight ounce package of Oscar Mayer Hard Salami at Hartford, Connecticut area food retailers is approximately $4.99. Even when considering the great, hearty flavor, pleasant texture and high quality of this salami, I think that this price is high, but in line with the price of other high – quality salami products.
Texture
The texture of Oscar Mayer Hard Salami makes me think of old – world customs, such as meat – curing and preservation. Don’t be scared – off by the name of this product. When I first saw the name ‘Hard Salami’, I was afraid that it would be overly – spicy and very hard in texture. That is not the case, however.
While the texture of this salami is different from that of Genoa and / or cooked salami, it is not overly – hard or spicy. This meaty hard salami is firm in texture, but it is still easy to chew and does not contain any pieces of ‘mystery meat’ or other unpleasant additives.

Taste / Flavor
This variety of salami is quite tasty. If you’re a fan of salami to begin with, there’s a good chance that you’ll enjoy the flavor offered by Oscar Mayer Hard Salami. Even if you’re not a big fan of salami, you might enjoy the hearty taste of this product.
As with any type of salami, this item is spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. To me, the flavor of this item speaks more of meat, rather than spices.
While I enjoy eating sandwiches made with this product, its meaty taste adds a lot to other dishes, such as omelettes and stir – frys. Another great way to utilize this Oscar Mayer salami is to serve it with cheese and crackers as part of an hors d’oevures platter.

All things considered, Oscar Mayer Hard Salami is a hearty sliced cold cut meat item. If you are a fan of salami in general, chances are, you would enjoy eating this item.
