When I try to rely on something that stands out from others, it is better to notice that there are certain expressions that are used too often. If you’re a “highly qualified” or “companion player,” you’re not one of the hundreds of others who have already been recruited. The emphasis is on resume phrases, and people should try and avoid them at all costs.
OfficeTeam is a staffing agency that conducted a survey to discover which were the most frequently used resume phrases. An independent research firm conducted telephone interviews with over 1,300 senior managers who work in a company with a staff of 20 or more employees. The companies were located in both Canada and the United States.
The survey asked “what is the most empty or overused sentence you see on repeat?” They also provide some of what you are actually looking for.
PHRASE: very suitable
Why submit something if you are not the most qualified? The hiring manager wants to know what you bring to the position. Describe your previous success in positions, and mention the specific skills and certifications you have acquired. This will show that you are very suitable, without the need to make a statement.
PHRASE: Working
This is the time to mention the incidents that you went above and beyond expectations. Note down the challenges you faced and if you have solving-skills”>solved problems outside of your description.
PHRASE: Team player
It is recognized that working well with others is important. You may want to list examples of how you worked with others in the company to achieve a goal.
PHRASE: Problem Solver
It is good to be able to handle difficult situations, but it is better to mention a certain situation. Provide details of how it was handled correctly.
PHRASE: Flexible
It is good to be able to easily adapt to changing conditions. Give details of how you handled the new situation. Tell us how you successfully used the invaluable tool.
PHRASE: I began my own
The order is good, and he will be able to contribute immediately. This might be the time to mention how quickly you did it when you noticed an error that needed to be fixed.
DICTIONARY: People
It may be best to describe your well-developed communication skills. Also tell how this has helped you with both internal and external contacts. See examples.
