The G&L; Clothing Challenge took place in Des Moines, Iowa over the weekend of May 26-27, 2012. This was a PDGA sanctioned A-tier event presented by the Des Moines Disc Golf Club, and a great success with 191 disc golfers coming out to compete.
It was back-to-back Memorial Championship winner, Paul McBeth of Clearwater, Fla. who captured the victory in the men’s open division with an impressive final score of 40-under par. McBeth also had a win at the Wintertime Open in February.
2011 PDGA Rookie of the Year, Ricky Wysocki of Fort Mill, S.C. followed at second place scoring 37-under par, and it was the 2009 World Champion Avery Jenkins of Capitola, Calif. who captured third place with a final score of 35-under par, while three-time World Champion Nate Doss, also of Capitola, followed in fourth place scoring 28-under par. Local Tanner Duncan came in at fifth place at just a stroke behind with a final score of 27-under par.
Three-time Women’s World Champion Valarie Jenkins of Capitola, Calif. won the women’s open division with a final score of 1-under par. So far this year she’s had several victories including the Memorial Championship and the CSUMB Otter Open. Another three-time Women’s World Champion, Des Reading of Wimberley, Texas followed Jenkins at second place scoring 6-over par.
2011 Female Rookie of the Year, Catrina Allen of Phoenix, Arizona captured third place with a final score of 10-over par while Alison Wiley of Ankeny, Iowa came in at fourth place scoring 29-over par.
2010 Masters World Champion Phil Arthur of Woodstock, Ga. took the victory in the masters division with a final score of 27-under par while Lisa Warner of Columbus, Ohio was the winner for the women in the masters division scoring 44-over par.
Chad Nelson of Schererville, Ind. was crowned champion in the advanced division with a final score of 6-under par and it was up-and-coming disc golfer and fashion model Holly Finley of Cambridge, Wisc. who won the division for the women scoring 28-over par.
Other winners included Gary Harvey, John Shaw, Roger Whitney, Dustin Wells and Kerri Haught.
