When choosing a dentist for your child, you should first consider the differences between a family dentist and a pediatric dentist. The first, most obvious difference is that it is a lot harder to find a pediatric dentist than it is to find a family dentist. The reason for that brings us to our second difference. A family dentist is only required to finish a 4-year degree to practice dentistry; however, a pediatric dentist has had at least an additional 2 years of training. This extra training specializes in dealing with children and people with special needs. Because of this training, it is safe now to move on third difference between a pediatric dentist and a family dentist. A pediatric dentists’ office will be more likely to make a child feel more comfortable with child friendly waiting rooms and extra friendly staff, where as in a family dentist office, they may have a few children’s magazines. With research showing that the most common chronic childhood disease in the U.S. is tooth decay, I’d want to make sure that my child is dealing with the best possible dentist out there. With that being said, I have compiled a list of some pediatric dentists in the Baton Rouge area.

At this pediatric dentist, they make sure that you are comfortable from the moment you walk in, from the coffee bar and wireless internet for the parents, to the play centers and game systems for the kids. This office offers digital radiography, which minimizes the contact your child has with radiation during x-rays. For new patients, you can be prepared by downloading the new patient forms at home. Also, in case of a dental emergency, their website tells you how you should handle each situation.
