Donating plasma is a rewarding service, and I encourage you to try it for yourself, as you can imagine. With that said, here is a personal story of my short time with Life Bio.
When I first moved to Kokomo, I couldn’t find a job anywhere. I lived in a shared house, where it was cheap rent, and then it was possible to do plasma and read odd jobs here and there. When donating plasma in Kokomo, you will receive either $50 or $60 a week depending on whether or not you have reached your fifth donation (with every fifth donation you receive an extra $10). Can donate twice a week (maximum amount) to earn $250 extra dollars a month. Many people in Kokomo donate and have no problems. My friends have donated for years without any problems. I, however, am not so lucky.
The first month of giving went pretty well. Many people can donate in 45 minutes or less, it always took me an hour and a half. There is no real “time” when it comes to plasma donate plasma, it all just depends on where your body is working I heard drinking a good amount of water before donating will help speed up the process, but this backfired pretty hard on me, and I almost peed my pants once I wait for the machine to be able to suck my arm. My second month of donating plasma is where the complications started. I went in on Monday, and halfway through my session, all the power in the building went out. Due to the lack of power, I lost quite a bit of red-blood-cells”>blood (which are usually fed back into the body , separated from the plasma donation).I was told that if I had any complications for the next 8 weeks I would not be able to donate for another 8 weeks right arm, and from which I could not donate.
The complications I had at Bio Life gave me a negative opinion of the entire facility. I must admit that my veins are not very visible, but either A. I will wait with a staff, so that he does not “stick” me, or B. the best man will come and give me a “Pugone”. Bio made a life for neither of these, and it is difficult to forgive them for such a mistake. What made this mistake more difficult to deal with was that he later inquired that his staff had not come to school to be phlebotomists, but that they had little training at the “on the fly” facility. Knowing this, it was hard for me to believe that the first month was problem free.
It’s not all fog and mist though, and many people have gone to Bio Vita over the years without ever being treated in this unfortunate way. I could have avoided this situation altogether if I had used the flexibility of Bio-Life with its staff. When in Bio Life, for whatever reason, you have no questions asked, you can always ask any staff member to “staff” you, or “staff” not have, so if you have your doubts, make sure to speak up!
What is most important is that you are trying to donate plasma. Donating plasma is a simple, easy, and rewarding thing to do. And for every horror story like mine, there are four or five people who experience no problems at all. Physics is very common, and they usually just give you a long list of questions and any notes you have.
