They exist everywhere. Some towns are beacons for tourists and travelers, or people who just want to spend a sunny summer day exploring the shops and walking through the small streets of the city. Two such towns exist on the shore of Long Island Sound, in the western Suffolk-county”>Suffolk County, so that the burden is too pressing. If you already live nearby, it’s easy to simply wake up, grab a quick bite to eat, and drive to your destination.
The northern port is a historic town, and it still carries the feeling of old town grace. Inhabited in the early 1600s, the town is somewhat small but still wonderfully quaint. When you arrive in Northport, the main road is straight to the parking areas, almost overlooking the beach, the tide gently rolling against the docks and hitting the rocks, almost on the beach.
The main street is where you explore most of what Northport has to offer, including many unique shops where you can buy anything from casual clothing< /a> to handmade candles and novelties, and restaurants where you can dine on anything from the menu to the apothecary’s cuisine.
After shopping, you will want to stroll through the numerous streets in residential areas, where you can marvel at the Traditional and Victorian style houses some of them lavishly painted and decorated. At the end of Main Street, you reach the water, where you can sit and relax on the docks, or spread out a blanket on the large grassy area that borders the dock area.
Be sure to check out the town’s events, everything from parades to concerts, holiday celebrations, craft fairs and art shows!
Northport holds a special place in my heart too, as I remember passing there many timess. boy, and buying stacks of candy from one of the novelty shops, in addition to learning to windsurf and water-ski. Not so long ago, there was also a day trip with my wife, where we shared a fabulous town wandering and enjoying a great dinner in one of the town’s cozy restaurants.
Another town that immediately comes to mind as a perfect summer day is Port Jefferson. Larger than Northport, you can easily spend a day here exploring the many upscale boutiques and quaint art galleries. You can casually walk through the quaint streets or along the docks, but be prepared for large crowds in the summer months, and be prepared to arrive early to find a decent parking space.
Port Jefferson also boasts a small beach, several parks and a number of historic and Victorian style buildings. Make sure to visit the newly built Village Center, where you are sure to find a different event almost every week, from historical art exhibitions. In winter it is the site of the annual Dickens Ball, an annual Dickens-themed activity in which the town is transformed from Charles Dickens ‘At the Nativity of Charles’.
For dinner you will have no problem finding an exquisite Italian, salt fresh, steak. And after your meal, you can find a myriad of nightlife activities, from darts clubs to Danfords in Sound, from a dinner An appointment with a trendy dance club.
There’s certainly a small town friendliness in the air as you walk the streets of Port Jefferson, and if you don’t live nearby, you extended-morning-hotels”>extend your stay< /a> for the weekend, staying at the lovely hotel Danford’s Inn, and enjoying a few hours at the spa.
Choose either city at any time, and you’ll find yourself in a town full of charm, beauty, and unbridled enthusiasm.
