When you’re pregnant, running genetic tests that do things like calculate the possible eye color of your future baby is surprisingly fun. My first stop when I wanted to see what our son’s eye color would likely be was an eye color generator that I found online. It is worth bearing in mind that these calculators are based on two types of models, and will never be 100% accurate. Even today, scientists aren’t entirely sure of exactly why we’ll end up with the eye color that we have. There are examples of gray, blue, and green eyes, but no one is quite sure about gray, purple, or violet eyes. . So make sure your mind plays with genetic calculators.
In my case, my husband has brown eyes while I have blue eyes. In the genetic areas we have been asked about what was in the color of our eyes as well as those of our parents. If my husband had passed on the two eye genes to his son, he would have had brown eyes. He would have still had brown eyes, even though my husband had passed on one blue-eyed gene and one blue-eyed gene. But because my husband has two blue genes (and there are two recessive blue genes) our son ends up with blue eyes. The only reason my husband also carries these cheeks is because of the great grandmother in his family who once had blue eyes – he is the only one we know of who is Turkish. So in the end, it was my husband who had the cheeks that allowed our son to have blue eyes.
