Pumpkin recipes are easy to find on the Internet. A great activity that will involve all of the senses is to have your preschool class work together to make a pumpkin snack that they can share.

Fine Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Pumpkins

Pour the contents of a can of pumpkin into a strong sandwich bag. Zip it shut, put the bag of pumpkin into another sandwich bag. Make sure all of the air is out of the bags. Zip the outer bag. Tape the top with clear packing take. Let your preschool students squish the bags of pumpkin. Have them practice writing the letters S and s and the number 5 on the bag of pumpkin with their forefingers. The imprints of the letters and number will be left in the soft pumpkin.

Gross Motor Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Pumpkins

Divide your preschool classroom into two lines. Give each group a pumpkin. Have your students take turns rolling the pumpkin to a line marked on the floor and then back again. If you like, you can make it a race between the two groups. Just be sure to praise and reward both the winning and the second place teams.

Let your preschool students finger paint large circles with orange finger paint. (You might let them cut out the circles themselves prior to finger painting.) Then have them glue on black construction paper eyes, noses and mouths, as well as a brown stem on top. Ta da! Pre-math Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Pumpkins

As a variation on the Five Little Pumpkins finger play, place five flannel pumpkins on your preschool classroom’s flannel board. One by one, ask your preschoolers to take down two (or any number of) pumpkins. How many are left? Carry on with similar similar counting and math problems.

Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Pumpkins

For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters P and p lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. Do the same with the number 5.

For older students, provide an example of the letters P and p and the number 5. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.
