While I try to limit the amount of sweets I eat, eating dessert after dinner is something that I often find myself looking forward to. For many years I have been a fan of Drake’s Coffee Cakes and I also recently began purchasing and eating Little Debbie Cinnamon Streusel Cakes.
If you’re a fan of the “Seinfeld” television program you’ve probably seen the episode which mentions Drake’s Coffee Cakes repeatedly. These cakes are very popular and deservedly so. The Little Debbie cakes are similar in appearance, flavor and texture to the Drake’s cakes and I think they would be good items to compare and review.

Texture / Consistency
One of the reasons I set out to write a comparison review of these two cakes is because of their textures, which are quite similar.
Both the Little Debbie Cinnamon Streusel Cake and Drake’s Coffee Cake are made with real cakes that are soft yet fairly dense. When either cake is enjoyed with a hot cup of coffee or a cold glass of milk their textures really shine. To me, the Little Debbie cakes seem just a little bit moister than the Drake’s cakes.

Taste / Flavor
When it comes to flavor these two types of cakes are quite similar but not identical. The flavor offered by the iconic Drake’s Coffee Cake is very pleasant and does not taste too sweet.
The cinnamon streusel crumb topping on this coffee cake marries well with the nice yellow cake underneath, creating a delicious little taste treat. Funny thing, every one of the many times I have eaten one of these treats, it seems like I’m tasting apple.
Although they are not billed as coffee cakes, Little Debbie Cinnamon Streusel Cakes might as well be. To my tastebuds these cakes taste very much like Drake’s Coffee Cakes, only a little bit better. The streusel topping on these cakes offers a more vibrant and sweeter flavor than that offered by the Drake’s Coffee Cakes and the cake part seems to be just a tad moister.
On a flavor scale of one through ten I would assign Drake’s Coffee Cakes a rating of 9.75 and Little Debbie Cinnamon Streusel Cakes a rating of 9.77.
Packaging
Drake’s Coffee Cakes are packaged in clear plastic wrappers that feature the familiar blue, orange and white Drake’s logo with the words ‘Coffee Cake’ in large red and white letters.
The attractive packaging of Little Debbie Cinnamon Streusel Cakes is what drew me to them in the first place. They are packaged in a plastic wrapper that features a clear window in the center and an aesthetically pleasing maroonish-brown border.
Both packages list all pertinent ingredient and nutritional information and they both open easily.
Overall Rating
As with many other products that are compared and reviewed, Drake’s Coffee Cakes and Little Debbie Cinnamon Streusel Cakes are very similar and they feature no real negative components. Although I really like the flavor of the Little Debbie cakes the sugar content is quite high.
Would I purchase each of these cakes again ? The answer to that question is definitely yes.
