Canon has an impressive line of digital cameras in its catalog, with items for every type of shooter — casual shooter, amateur, hobbyist and professional. Some, falling in between categories, may be financially stuck in a hobbyist role.
If this is the case with you, you know how difficult it is to find a GENERAL digital camera that provides high resolution, sharp images. for a price that won’t break the bank. Fortunately, Canon has a wide line of digital cameras to fulfill this requirement, and this is one such camera. PowerShot Pro70.
The Canon PowerShot Pro70 is a major camera from the Canon line, and can be purchased for less than $50, making it an excellent choice for those in need of some high-end at a very removed from the body and another place. The purpose of this camera is above, and the body should look like a dSLR.
The camera is heft and has an elongated and rounded handle, as all dSLRs do, the lens barrel is elongated, looking exactly like a removable lens. Additionally, and perhaps most surprisingly, the zoom lens is twisty unlike other non-dSLR cameras, where the lens is controlled digitally using a tiny thumb button, the Pro70’s zoom is controlled by twisting the lens barrel. So the dSLR would be traditional.
This camera moves notches above the competition, giving it a professional feel and look that would make anyone proud to carry it.
The top of the camera has a rotary button and power button, as well as a rotary clock and viewfinder mode.
The back has your average camera, the main control panel, as well as the LCD.
Features
This camera was packed with amazing features in 1999 when it was first launched. One of the immediately noticeable features is the flip-out LCD screen, which can also be rolled forward.
The zoom angle is wide, so there are no issues with not being able to capture enough range in your images. There is no distortion with the zoom, which is a big plus, as many cameras suffer from lens distortion at extreme angles.
The images have a maximum resolution of 1.6 megapixels, which is smaller than some cellphone cameras. It is important to remember that megapixels do not equal quality, simply resolution. This photo will have a max resolution of just under a thousand pixels, which is more than enough for most accurate shots.
Storage in this camera in the form of two compact flash slots – two cards you can stick in this camera and literally be able to send before a thousand you need to extract pictures / delete some pictures.
There are rechargeable batteries, which lower costs.
Image Quality
The image quality you get from the PowerShot Pro70 is very good. Images are sharp and finely saturated, and colors are nearly 100% accurate. There is an option to send JPEG using Canon’s best compression, and there is also an option to send RAW. In fact, JPEG shots are rendered better and with near-perfect color accuracy.
Noise is not a problem up to about 400ISO, as it is with any digital camera.
Cons
As with any camera, they are flushed. The biggest thing about this camera is the megapixels – just under 2 megapixels, it’s not enough for those who want to make large and magnificent prints of their work. You won’t be able to get a super 10″ print with this resolution, which is for some people. However, it depends on you. If you print an average of 4″ x 6″, and / or leave it at hard drives, this camera is completely thin.
Another problem with this camera, and one that is no longer a problem with future cameras, is the lack of an integral flash – this camera does not have a flash. You can buy one to add to the camera, but it will be an extra expense, and a disappointing choice for Canon.
Conclusion
Overall, who wouldn’t love this camera? It feels like a pro, looks like a pro, and gives the best photos to fill a scrapbook or reminisce about your vacation. The controls give a lot of photography freedom, and the low-profile sensor with two connected storage slots means you can take thousands of photos a> in one session.
As long as you are not looking to make quality, great photos of yourself, the Canon PowerShot Pro70 is the best choice.
