Logitech is known for computer peripherals and universal remotes with the new all-in-one touch screen control device on the ring remote that can control all your entertainment skills. The Logitech Harmony Touch remote is a handheld remote with a 2.4 inch touch screen for easy control of your entertainment center and even an air remote indoor conditioners and ceiling fans.
The Harmony Touch comes with the remote, charging stand, and adapter and USB cable with instructions to get the remote started, but the basic settings and instructions will be done from your computer. Logitech’s Harmony remotes come in two major versions with the newer ones installed using the MyHarmony.com website and the model number of the device you’d like to order.
The first step after detecting a new remote is to load a small program onto your computer and use the model numbers of all the remote devices. Logitech also has a printing workshop if you need extra help to find the model numbers, but simply writing all those numbers from the stickers on the machines is pretty easy.
Remote connections with your computer with both MAC and Windows based devices to set up activities and devices are the two major ones. It uses remote types. The computer only adds a driver and an icon without adding any real software to your system, most of the heavy lifting is done computer wise from the Logitech site.
Activities are things like watching TV, watching DVDs, listening to music or using portable air conditioning. air conditioners while the thoughts go deeper into each part of your entertainment center. Logitech’s website has an interactive list of devices by manufacturer that you can check to see if your devices are available as pre-programmed remotes that currently include over 225,000 devices.
Once you’ve installed My Harmony and signed in to your account, you simply follow the easy browser-based steps to set up activities and devices such as watching TV. To use one way the device is quite simple but for things like to watch a movie you need to convert it to a DVD or Blu-ray player into two different devices and this is where Harmony Touch shines.
The touch will turn on my TV and set it to the correct input to watch DVD while also turning on my Oppo DVD player. and I’m currently using the sound bar for my sound system. The TV will go to the HDMI input while the sound will simply turn the bar and power on the DVD player. for either watching whatever movie is currently on or waiting for you to insert one.
You can still use each and every button to form a remote control of Touch devices or you can replace them. put important things like buttons in Touch through simple parish instructions. Logitech Touch also has a Favorites icon where Internet or TV channels can be arranged to the Favorites page for easy watching of common channels.
You can choose from local cable and broadcast stations or add your own images to the blank icons and use whatever you want in your icons. This setup is very easy, and I have all my local stations on the air, so I use the channel name and station numbers.
Harmony Touch works great for multiple devices but for the PlayStation 3 you still need to adjust something a little extra because it’s a Bluetooth only device but Logitech has a special device for it called the Harmony Adapter for the season 3. Harmony Touch costs about $250. It’s time but the Playstation 3 adapter costs an extra $60 which is a bit expensive until you look at all the remotes sitting on your coffee table.
A single remote that can control all your devices isn’t going to be cheap, but the Logitech Harmony Touch has a few other tricks up its sleeve with the ability to learn directly from other remotes. I recently received a JBL Cinema SB200 sound bar which is a new device and Logitech has not reviewed this yet and even trying it on a nearby SB300 did not work well.
I simply turned the remotes to talk to each other and have the Logitech Touch learn commands directly from the JBL sound bar remote which were really just for power and volume. The sound bar also comes with the ability to learn remote commands from the TV remote but I wanted to control everything from the Logitech remote so I didn’t need all the remotes sitting around.
The universal touch remote has a nice touch with this latest version that connects to an AC adapter to keep the remote charged when you’re not using it and as a handy place to keep the remote. The My Harmony pages for setting up the remote are very easy to use and even for very complex devices like Logitech receivers will have all controls listed if you need to work with the recipient.
Actions on the touch screen and at the bottom of the touch screen will write shortcuts to help and a menu that opens the devices page, where all saved devices are listed. The touch screen adds a much easier way to control your remote and I find it useful to not have to worry too much about pressing the right buttons on the side as in the previous Harmony remote.
If you’re looking for a new way to control all those devices and want the convenience of computer support to keep things organized, the Logitech Harmony Touch is definitely worth the price. I highly recommend the Logitech Harmony Touch Universal Remote as an easy to use and easy to use remote to keep all those entertainment devices online without the hassles of brands.
