The Logitech z-5500 Digital 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System has received great reviews all around and can form an integral part of any home theater system. The speakers feature Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, THX certification, a powerful subwoofer, and come with a 25-foot long speaker wire long enough for most setups.
The Logitech z-5500 spits out earth-shattering bass and offers connectivity options for just about every digital or analog audio source imaginable. The system is easy to set up and features a great multi-function control center with LCD screen and remote.
After six months of using my home theater system I can easily say that they are the best computer speakers – or some. speakers – I’ve had them, I love them, and I’m confused. Why? That they were good, that I was spoiled and picky.
The first time I watched a movie on my home theater system I became distracted as I was overwhelmed by the sound of the images. The music choices all sounded excellent, from any genre at any volume. I found the average tones to be lacking in many comments from the speakers.
About three months after getting the system, my subwoofer suddenly started humming on its own, and immediately turned to medium power. Logitech replaced it for me promptly, and I only had to wait about 10 minutes per phone. I’ve read complaints that there is no online tech support for the products, but reading the phone I didn’t find it to be a problem.
The customer representative was friendly and immediately told me exactly what I needed to do to replace the item. After mailing control-cars”>control-cars”>remote and remote, I was provided with a new account within 10 business days
You can’t screw the speakers into the walls, that’s what everyone else said. But I recommend that you save your time and try to build or buy a small platform. The wiring is thinner but it can, and should, be replaced with a better quality speech signal to really bring out the subtle shades of sound produced by Dolby Digital converter
The Logitech z-5500 comes with a 10-inch subwoofer included in a case that should hold a 12-inch subwoofer. The bulk of the additions looks fantastic for those who print easily, but I’d rather save a few inches of space.
The Logitech z-5500 Digital 5.1 Surround Speaker System runs for $399.95 through Logitech itself. I found a speaker system for barely more than $200 by comparison shopping online. For the price I paid, I am satisfied. If I had paid the Logitech price, I’d want my money back.
Before we buy these speakers, remember that you need a sound card capable of 5.1 channel speakers, if your computer is not already equipped with one. We’ve also found that many other devices won’t connect to the control center without a mini to dual RCA adapter – at least not my Nintendo Wii, computer monitor, HDTV screen, or my DVD player.
This review of the Logitech z-5500 Digital 5.1 Surround Speaker System comes across as negative, at least compared to the many reviews I read when I was shopping for new speakers. These speakers produce amazing sound from the odd instance of a defective first subwoofer, probably due to an unfortunate human error in the factory line.
