Product Review: South Beach Diet Teriyaki Steak Wraps

I have largely avoided South Beach and its cult following because I don’t believe that for most people a specific, prescribed diet is the answer to healthy weight loss. Most of the information I’ve seen on Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, and the South Beach diet plans seem to be stuff that doctors have been saying for years and years and years: eat according to your needs, exercise. Honestly, what new vitamins appeared in the last 10 years that just wasn’t there before?

However, I am more willing to try new foods and combinations, especially healthy foods. It’s definitely a shot of some of South Beach Diet’s frozen foods, starting with the South Beach Diet Teriyaki Steak. Can this meal convince me that all those tan, fit men in Miami are really onto something?

Appearance and nutrition. The South Beach Teriyaki wrap on the outside looks like your mid-day tortilla wrap. You can’t really tell what’s in them from the outside, since the box has a cool lid, some kind of meats and browns. sauce, of course, flavored with teriyaki.

Two individual servings are wrapped in individual capsules and weigh in at 190 calories, 50 from fat. Each serving contains 6 grams of fat, 540 milligrams of sodium (23% of the recommended daily intake), 6 P. pure > (% 24 ), and sometimes 15 P. This is like being packed with all the nutrients you need at lunch. Above all, you will have Vitamin A (25%), Vitamin C (25%), and Iron (20%).

Shouldn’t I buy a teriyaki wrap or some Beach Day bar at GNC? I looked even further into the ingredients and found gluten wheat there and separates the protein.

Taste. The South Beach Diet Teriyaki Steak was indeed stuffed and eaten. As I mentioned above, it was difficult to discern from the external appearance whether these veils were any good or not, but I was pleasantly surprised.

teriyaki sauce tasted almost like fresh teriyaki sauce. The beef jerky was tender and the texture didn’t hold up to normal food. But what was impressive were the vegetables. The cauliflower florets were crunchy and the sauce was great! I couldn’t believe how fresh they tasted with a bite! This was a very carefully constructed meal and I only had one serving.

In retrospect I would have added something else to the meal. I really didn’t want to cram two servings of South Beach Teriyaki Steak into one sitting, partly because I didn’t want to feel stuffed, partly because I wanted to eat it again the next day. Although 190 calories is a good chunk of change in a serving, I might have felt better with another 100 or 200 calories on the side.

An hour after the Beach Day Lunch Teriyaki Steak I was hungry again. Some of the taste is just right and the price. Either way, I’m impressed and look forward to trying more of the Beach Diet meals at my local grocery store. I could have these once a week.
