Many people remember seeing a commercial for the “Febreze Scentstory Player,” a new electric home fragrance option, a few years ago. At the time, I thought it was a really cool idea, and my brother actually bought me a stage play for Christmas. I actually use the player to add scent to my house, but I don’t really get the idea, I guess, because a long time ago you couldn’t find Febreze Scent Discs anywhere and I thought it was a discontinued product.
Much to my delight, I opened the latest version of Yankee Candle Company and saw the latest Scentstory Discs. Yankee scents were available. Apparently, Yankee Cereus acquired the rights to the technology from Proctor & Gamble, and are in the process of launching a full line of spice products. When I first saw that the discs were available, I ordered two, and in this review, I will cover the actual player in addition to the new line of fragrance discs from Yankee Candle.
The whole concept of fragrances is meant to bring the familiarity of the CD player to the electric market home fragrance. To get started, you’ll need to purchase a Scentstory Player, which is currently on sale for $24.99 through the YankeeCandle.com site (you may be able to find Febreze-branded players in local stores for less, although they’re hard to find). The player has a small footprint and does not take up much space, so it can be easily installed. at the end of a small table or shelf where it is out of the way. After plugging the AC adapter into an available electrical outlet, you’re ready for your first Scentstory Disc.
Place the Perfume Disc in the Scentstori Player, then close the lid to firmly lock your hair in place. Now, you just have to press the play button and the unit will start working. Each fragrance disc contains 5 different scents, which are rotated every half hour to give you two and a half hours of full fragrance. The player has an ultra-quiet fan inside that gently fills even large rooms with scent, and you can’t really hear the player working except for the faint, mechanical switching sound whenever it switches from one scent to another. The player also has an intensity setting that allows you to adjust the scent output, and you can also skip the scent or stop the player at any time.
I bought two of Yankee Candle’s new scenic discs, one called “Tropical Paradise” and the other “Farmer’s Market”. Both discs feature many popular Yankee Candle scents, including Juicy Peach, Granny Smith, Macintosh, Sun & Sand, Mango Peach Salsa, and even a few more. When the first Fragrance Discs arrived, I popped one in my Scentstory Player to try it out. I was surprised at how good it smelled. Whenever Febreze was made into Scentstory Discs, I found some of the fragrances of an artificial nature, smelling almost like chemicals, made from Yankee Candles discs, but they sure smelled good for life (the fruit smells so good you could almost taste them!). I found the Yankee Candles discs to be even stronger than the old ones made by Febreze, which was nice because I could lower the intensity on the player, so it ran even quieter.
Overall, I am very happy with my Scentstories Player and Fragrance Discs from Yankee Candle Company. The player definitely provides more scent than a typical “plug-in” and quickly fills the room with scent, unlike candles or tarts, which have to burn for a while before you can really smell them. Plus, each disc contains five Yankee scents, and you can rotate between a few rounds, so the Scentoria Player gives you more goodness and versatility than many other home fragrances. The only drawback is that in Scentstories Player & Scent Discs are currently only sold through the Candle website and catalog, so you’ll have to pay for shipping to get one of these to your home. Having said that, I think Scentstorias Player is a good investment that will keep your home filled. Amazing Yankee Candle fragrance for years to come!
