Profile of Howie Mandel, Host of NBC’s Deal or No Deal

When we’re born we never know where our life will take us. Of course, we don’t even really know what life is when we’re born. As the years go by we grow, and while we grow we begin to learn more and more about life, and beginning at a certain age we start making plans for where we want our lives to go in the future – what career we will pursue, what we want to go to college for and etc..

When Howie Mandel was born in Toronto, Canada on November 29, 1955 I don’t think he expected his career to start the way it did. Howie Mandel’s career started on a dare from his friends. Not only did Howie Mandel do what he was dared to do, but he got lucky doing it.

In 1979, at the age of 24, Howie Mandel and his friends attended the Comedy Store, in Los Angeles, on amateur night, and his friends dared him to get onto the stage and try his luck. Little did Howie and his friends know, there was a producer amongst the crowd that night, and when Howie acted on the dare, the producer instantly hired him to make an appearance on the game-show “Make Me Laugh.” However, “Make Me Laugh” was not the only entertainment Howie Mandel done. “Make Me Laugh” was only the beginning of Howie Mandel’s entertainment career. “Make Me Laugh” started Howie Mandel on his road to success.

After “Make Me Laugh,” Howie Mandel went on to appear on talk shows, and he even done an opening act for Diana Ross. Later, Howie Mandel played “Dr. Wayne Fiscus,” on the award-winning NBC drama, “St. Elsewhere.” But it didn’t stop there; his biggest success was the Emmy Award-nominated children series, “Bobby’s World.” “Bobby’s World” ran for eight seasons on FOX, and it now appears in syndication. Howie was the creator and executive producer of “Bobby’s World.” In addition, Howie was also involved in the writing of “Bobby’s World,” and he was the voice of Bobby, Bobby’s dad and additional characters in the series.

Today, Howie Mandel makes many appearances on “The Tonight Show” where he performs his signature hidden-camera bits. In addition to “The Tonight Show,” Howie Mandel is the host of NBC’s “Deal or No Deal.” “Deal or No Deal” is a game show based on luck. I guess Howie figures if got lucky, then just maybe he can help make someone else lucky. The only difference in Howie’s luck and the game show is: Howie’s luck came as success in the entertainment industry, and his contestant’s luck could come in the form of one million dollars. “Deal or No Deal” can be seen on NBC every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (7:00 p.m. CST).

Howie Mandel married his wife Terry Mandel in March 1980, and together they had three children – Jackie (born in 1985), Riley (born in 1993) and Alex (born in 1990). Howie currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and their three children.
