Just bring a puppy home and start to potty train him. But realize that after few attempts of potty train your puppy, he still continues to mess up his den (which is equal to his room), soils his bed, continuous barking, feeling anxious, chewing and whining when in the den.
If your puppy is showing all the symptoms above, you might be making mistakes when potty train your puppies as with proper housebreaking training these problems should not arise.
First you will need to understand few things before start to potty train your puppy.
At the beginning, your puppy will not be able to control his muscle which will help him to hold it before mess up. They will only able to control when they reach 12 weeks old. So before this time, many accidents might occur. Do not feel upset if potty training is not successful during this period of time. But potty train during this period is crucial. Why? This will be developed into habits which are difficult to be change in future.
What you need to do will be supervise during the early stage. Put more time and effort during this period of time will help you to potty train your puppy successfully.
Supervise your puppy, he will give some clues when he wants to urinate and defecate in the house. When you notice this, bring him to outside or toilet. (Confine area where you want him to eliminate) As, all dogs have the bad habits of eliminating at the same area. So, once they eliminate at that specific place, they will keep doing that. As, dogs being creatures of habits, they will return to familiar spot if it is convenient. So, if you do not properly potty train your pup, once the habits develop does not blame anybody!
Dogs born naturally with the instinct to keep their room and rest place clean. So, all dogs will not eliminate at their sleeping area. Why does my dog eliminating at his cushion or den? You are probably making few mistakes that lead him to do so!
Do you introduce his den to him properly? How to introduce? First, setup a proper area or space which is a den to your pup. Spend some time with him at the den; let him know this is his bedroom. Let him feel safe, comfortable and secure in the den. After sometimes, you will realize he love his den and use to taking care of his den as he understand that this is his private area where he will spend his sweet time there. Tips, do not design den which is too big or large for your pup as they will not feel secure and will be confuse as it is too spacious. As long as they are comfortable with, it will be enough. (Sit, stand, stretch and turn around without any obstacles)
After few attempts of potty training, he still messes up his den or cushion? This might because you are leaving him for too long period of time in the den where he is not able to control. So, he got no choice except messing up his den.
Besides that do not feed him with excessive amount of water when leave him in the den. As this will be one of the contributions to potty training failure.
If you do not introduce his den to your puppy properly, he might end up barking, chewing, whining and biting when putting him in the den. As, they do not understand this is the safe place for him to rest, he feel anxious when being locate at this area, barking, chewing, whining and biting to shown attention and intend to get out from the den.
Use positive enforcement when potty trains your pup. So not scold, yield and whack them. Reward and praise them whenever they did it successfully, explain and let them understand when they making the mistakes. You will be surprise that your dogs can understand you if you keep on trying to communicate with them with love and care. This will help to ease your potty training process.
