When it comes to the movie renting experience, forget about long lines and being pressured into making additional purchases at the register. Redbox, a literal red box that sits in numerous locations throughout the U.S. including such places as local supermarkets and McDonald’s restaurants, is on a mission to change all that.
Simply slide your credit card and select as many DVDs as you’d like, all for just $1 each. These movies are brand new. The boxes are filled every Tuesday with the hottest new movies (and some not-so-new releases). Upon rental, you have until 9 p.m. the next day to return the DVD to any Redbox, regardless of where you initially rented the DVD. If you choose to keep the DVD for additional nights, go right ahead. Each additional night is just another dollar plus tax and will be automatically deducted from your card hassle-free.
After 25 nights, feel free to go ahead and keep the DVD, it is yours to keep. Your card will be charged for the retail price for the DVD.
Getting started using the Redbox is an incredibly simple process. This process does however require you to have a credit card and an email address. Just go to a Redbox and select your movie(s), it will then ask for your email address. After entering your email, it will show a shopping cart of the movies you selected during that transaction. Afterwards, it will ask you to slide your credit card for the amount shown to be charged. A few seconds later, your DVD is delivered, vending machine style, via a slot.
By the time you get home, a virtual receipt should be sitting in your email reassuring you of the amount charged and which movie(s) were rented and so on.
Returning the DVD is just as simple; just use the Redbox’s touch-screen to select the return DVD option. Slide the DVD back into the only available slot as shown and the Redbox will confirm the return showing your account on-screen. Again, upon returning home, you will get a DVD return confirmation email. It’s as simple as that.
It actually gets better, though! Go to Redbox.com for a limited time offer to get your first DVD rental for free! It will give you a unique code to enter when you first use a Redbox machine. Print or write down the password and, when at a Redbox machine, select rent with promo code. The same steps will ensue but without charging you a dime for the first DVD.
The Redbox may seem like it is good to be true but really it makes sense. In Japan, some companies use vending-style machines to sell everything from typical snacks to iPods! The companies utilizing these machines save so much money on labor costs and brick-and-mortar building rentals/purchases that they can afford to pass on major savings over their competition.
Take advantage of this revolutionary way to rent and be done with the hassle of video store frustrations forever. Happy renting!
