This is a great treat for those hot summer afternoons and long, weekend sports activities. Kids love this because they learn so much about the freezing properties of water. The best activities are those that allow them to explore the world, and this simple activity gives them power. These Kool-Aid pops are also perfect for slumber parties, late Sunday school and overnight stays at Grandma’s.
What you need:
Kool-Air in two or three flavors (like different colors, like red, green, yellow, and blue)
Make Kool-Aid pops or ice cube trays
Cut the strawberries into small pieces or cut the cherries in half
Small gummy candles like Gummi-bears or other shapes
Now, look what you are doing:
Prepare different flavors of Kool-Aid using sugar to taste. Tthe Kool-Aid pop molds are made from Tupperware and shaped like traditional popsicles. These forms are available at most grocery stores and at Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Target. They are also present in different shapes. If you use Kool-Aid molds, pour a small amount of Kool-Aid of a certain color. Depending on how many colors you want to use, each mold should fill about a third. You will freeze the molds until the first color Kool-Aid has set enough to prevent the second from mixing. color It does not have a hard concrete in the center, but it should be quite solid at the top. Next, you will add another color of Kool-Aid, again filling about a third of the mold. (The shapes will be two-thirds full.) When the second color is set, add a third color.
Now, the fun part comes as you fill out the forms. Put a piece of fruit or candy in the liquid for the first taste. When he puts the first flavor, put the fruit on top of the second flavor, and so on. Add as many fruits and candles as you want for personal preference.
When the pops are frozen, they will come in three different colors and have fruit and candy “floating” in them.
If you don’t have Kool-Aid molds, you can still make Kool-Aid cubes with a tray of ice. You will also need toothpicks and Saran-Wrap or other plastic wrap. Fill the ice cube trays the same way you filled the Kool-Aid molds. You may want to use only two flavors and one fruit or candy because of the much smaller size. When you fill the middle of the cubes with the first flavor, spread a piece of Saran-ama over the top and fold it tightly under the mold. Stick a toothpick through Saran-ama into each cube. Not much at first taste, but okay. Don’t take the low road all the way. Bring it about halfway through the bottom of the flavor. When the bottom of the flavor has settled, very carefully remove the Saran-Wrap (you will have to make the cubes last longer than necessary to keep the toothpick shapes in place) and pour the second flavor to fill the cubes. They are grazed for several hours, so that they are frozen all the way through.
When they are frozen solid, place the bottom of the ice cube tray in a bowl of warm water to thaw the popsicle cubes. Gently remove them and use a toothpick as a handle to treat them deliciously!
