Replacing the Fireplace Damper Lid

Now that it’s fall and the cold weather is upon us, take the time to make sure your fireplace damper is working properly. Over the years of use, the damper cover can become twisted or damaged. If this is the way your face or damper cover is, you need to replace this part of the flow. the damper is that metal in the chimney. If it’s not working well, then allows cold outside air to descend into your home. but not all. It also allows hot air to escape from the fireplace. Over time the dampers can warp and need replacing. Preparing to remove Damper

Put the locks in your pocket or purse. Do not loosen the brackets because you will need to replace them when you install the new damper cover.

When you have removed the locks, touch and turn the moisture cover sideways into the flue. This will allow you to remove the rod that holds it in place.

Install New Damper

Before installing the new damper cover, check it against the old one. Do the work because replacing the damper with the same size or cover will do you no good. If you haven’t bought a new damper cover yet, simply take the old one to your store to buy a new one. You can find damper covers at most hardware stores or home improvement stores. If I live in a rural area, try a lumberjack, Menards, Ace Hardware, courses or Bombgaars. Taking the damper cover with you to the store will help you to find the size that will fit in the end.

Now you are ready to install the new damper cover. So go back to the hearth and turn the trouble into light. You will need to replace the damper cover on the rod. The damper cover is held in place. You will now find the four balls that you removed earlier and put them back in place.
