Review: Ham at the Palladium
My family has enjoyed Ham’s restaurant ever since we moved to Greensboro over ten years ago. The chain started in Greensboro back in the early 1930’s. Today, they have grown to 18 locations across the South, and are by far the best “casual” restaurants around.
Whether you’re looking for a burger or something a little more hearty like ribs or pasta, you’ll find it at Ham. The restaurants have an ambiance that is not found in too many places these days. Although each place has its own “feel”, you can be sure that both the food and the service are consistently awesome!
My husband and I ate at one of the newer places recently – Hami at the Palladium, which is at 5840 Samet Drive in High Point, NC. This section of High Point is considered by most to be Greensboro because it is near the end of Wendover Avenue, near where Eastchester/68 and Penny Road meet. For years there was a Leo’s and a Starbucks at this location; During the two years the theater, apartment-complex, many stores and restaurants were added. Hami is a gem among them.
On this particular visit, Ham’s was offering half-price wing tastings. We got an order of wings “pulled” (hot) with bleu cheese and celery. My husband and I really enjoy SPICY food. While the flavor was apparent, the wings were not as hot as the “fragile train” seems to describe. But they were delicious and we were only disappointed in the heat level, not the taste.
I had a steak and cheese sandwich, and Ken had an Old Southburger. Both were absolutely ready for perfection. Together with our predecessor, we enjoyed the famous home-made potato chips. These potatoes are thinly sliced, fried and served in generous proportions. You can use most of the meals as an appetizer. They are so incredibly delicious that on other visits, we did both!
Other entrees enjoyed ribs, chicken parmesan, and of course – steaks. Hami also offers a series of wrap sandwiches that are likely to be lower in calories than their others.
They drank everything from cookies and tea, to the best microbrewed beer from around the world, to mixed drinks. . They also have juices, coffee and tea, and even fruit smoothies! Although Hami serves alcohol and also has a bar, none of these restaurants have a “bar” feel – families and non-drinkers feel very comfortable in the restaurant.
He has some of the best ham on the table anywhere – his favorite is fried cheesecake.
If you visit Hook, be sure to check out the training” > and sports memorabilia that make up each place of beauty. Also, website for fun events at your place Cham! You won’t regret having lunch or dinner at this great establishment!
Kathi Sharpe and her husband enjoy dining and sharing experiences with others. Neither has an affinity with any of the restaurants they write.
