Don’t mistake Ostream Steak and Oyster Bar with a chain called Steakhouse Outback. not even vaguely. While The Outback Steakhouse promises Aussie cuisine, the Outback Steak and Oyster Bar delivers.
In fact, it was long before the Steakhouse chain. The Outback Steakhouse also dared to ask them to change their name. The tables were turned when Outback Steak and Oyster Bar proved to be there first. heh Outback Steakhouse now has to get a special written license from Outback Steak and Oyster Bar to open either one of them within a 100 mile radius of Branson, MO. Let’s hear this for the guy!
Going down Hwy 76 from Springfield direction, OSOB will be on the left between the trees. You can explore the souvenir shop before you see the restaurant. They also have a bar. Make sure everything is checked.
The restaurant is a wood structure that reminds you of a building you might find on a beach somewhere. I love when the ambiance starts outside. It is surrounded by a large vestibule, so that you can sit in or dine, drink, and enjoy the scene. Inside is a double level. Deepicnic table there is a patio and dining room with a huge wooded area, the upstairs is a more formal dining room, but not so formal that you can’t stand in like you Along the walls you’ll find things like boomarangas and I love those Australian hats. It is very open and airy feeling.
The waitstaff is the best I’ve seen. They know the menu back and forth and are not afraid to make suggestions. They are very outgoing and friendly. The effectiveness is top notch. Dressed in khaki pants & coats with a leather hat that flips on one side. Let them feel you are among the leaders tour lead you to fight the gators.
Ahhh the food. He must die. Very good. I’ve been here several times, but I can’t remember the exact prices. I’m telling you this dinner here will run from $20-$30 per person without drinks. What you have is reasonable. Also, everyone has a style here. From steaks with heavenly sauces to Alligator to Emu, grilled snapper, lamb chops, seafood… Steaks are perfect for everything at one point, the Alligator tastes like chicken (I’m serious here!), and the Emu is extremely tough. I like to get a taster of alligator steak for my main meal. I tried to say Emu only once, but I just don’t like it…the meat, not the decoction of it.
Appetizers are plentiful and range from the aforementioned fried alligator to coconut shrimp. Mixed drinks are around $4-6, and of course you have to have Fosters! Other Australian drinks are available. There are 160 beers to choose from… to keep you beer reviewers busy all year long!
Outback Outfitters souvenir shop is more than just jewelry. They import clothing from Australia and the different countries they sell there. Everything from t-shirts to Dusters (a large oiled coat), and not all of them are cheap. Check it out here.
Do you want to write those 160 beer reviews and never leave the property? Stay at the Outback Roadhouse Motel and Suites in the restaurant. I also add and review, but alas, I never had the pleasure. Maybe on my next trip to Branson…
If you’re in Missouri somewhere on your travels, make a trip to this restaurant. Outback Steak and Oyster Bar is one of those rare finds that’s good enough for a larger-than-life experience.
