What do you want to have? What do you want to have? It is the official shout of the staff at Atlanta’s iconic Fast food restaurant: Varsity. Located on a 2 acre site at 61 North Avenue in downtown Atlanta, the world’s largest drive in fast food restaurant is famous Neon signs and various flags guide motorists crossing I-75/85. When my wife and I want to be bad and have fast food, we love to go to The. Varsity.
Founded in 1928, Varsity is an old school burger joint. Roast beef, french fries, hot dogs, chili dogs, onion rings, sodas, tea and milk shakes. In these days of fancy food burgers, a “Glorified” burger at Varsity is bacon, lettuce , tomato, and mayonnaise. If you’re trying to be healthy, your best bet is probably a garden salad, a grilled chicken salad, a chicken salad sandwich, or a blt wheat sandwich You should probably skip the ice cold Cook or home brand Golden Drink for the “unpleasant” tea. The website says they only use Kraft Lite Mayo in the chicken salad. All deep-fried food is fried in pure Canola oil, so that trans fats are included and saturated fats are low.
Of course, Varsity is much more fun to be bad. My wife and I think their chili and onion rings are simply awesome. Make sure you ask for some diced onions to go with your dogs. You can really taste the freshness. Sixteen flavors of ice cream desserts, pie a la mode, brownies, and fried apple pies. Of course, since Georgia is the State of Peaches, you’ll want to try peach pie for a local flavor. .
While the food is good, fresh, and fast, the atmosphere is a big part of the Varsity experience. It’s back in time for days feasting, drive-ins, straight hamburgers, and cheap eats. You can park and the carhops will bring you your food. But, for me, downtown Atlanta Varsity is standing shoulder to shoulder in a sea of hungry humanity. According to its location, the restaurant can accommodate 600 cars and 800 people. When Georgia Tech plays at home nearby, the restaurant can have 30,000 game day snacks. Varsity is a place that presides before or after Atlanta Braves games. During the 1996 Olympics, the Olympic Village was located directly across from the restaurant. A surprisingly small army of wordsmiths is up to the challenge and the defenses are moving very quickly to Varsity.
There are seven Varsity and Varsity Ir locations in North Georgia. But, at least once it is located, to visit the city of Atlanta. People watching at Varsity always laughed. When I visit a couple, we see young people. We saw hot men cheering, youth groups visiting the city to march on the civil rights field, and we saw motorcyclists enjoying the Atlanta Skyline, Facem An Olympic statue, colorful flags flying, and a cool breeze blowing over the decorated car.
Overall, I recommend a more moderate version of Varsity. when I eat, the price of the driver.
