To Make a Retro Tie Upholstered Seat Cover You Will Need:
Retro ties
Staple gun
Scissors

The first step is to unscrew the seat off of your chair. Usually the seat will be held on with four screws placed underneath the seat.
Now, if you need to add some padding this is the time to do it. You can buy sheets of foam to make your seat cushion a little more comfy.
Now, measure how wide and deep the seat is.
Lay out your retro ties, side by side, and alternating thin end fat end. You need to over lap the vintage ties about 5/8 of an inch each time. The lines do not have to be perfect and this is one whimsical upholstered seat cover, so straight lines and perfection are not necessary!
Now, pin the ties together with some straight pins. Make sure you row of ties is at least 4 inches wider than your seat.
Now, use your sewing machine to sew each tie together. Have a little fun here and use a new stitch on your sewing machine. You can create multiple lines, zig zag lines, sew in a weaving circular pattern, or any pattern you want!
Try creating some interest for this upholstered seat cushion with colored thread as well! Go for a funky gold or silver!
Now, turn your new vintage tie fabric over face down on a flat table.
Center the seat cushion face down on it.
Now, use your staple gun to attach the retro tie fabric to the seat. To do this simple fold up one side in the middle and staple it to the back of the chair seat. Now, directly opposite pull up the other side. Staple it down as well.
Now, work on the two non-stapled sides of retro tie fabric. Fold one side up in the middle and staple it into place. Now repeat on the opposite side. Continue attaching your shabby chic seat cover made from ties working in opposites.
Once your retro tie fabric has been attached all you need to do is trim off any excess. Do not trim too close to the edge of the seat. Try to stay back about three inches.
Turn your retro upholstered seat over and refasten it back to your chair!
