Review: Domino’s Oven Baked Sandwiches

We recently saw a commercial for Domino’s Pizza’s new oven-baked sandwich, and we thought it would be something different for dinner, so we decided to give them a try.

While they would certainly be different, I’m not sure if it’s worth our money.

I have always wondered about the logic of the place pizza trying to expand into other areas of food. It’s one thing to start with pasta (like Pizza Hut is doing now) but not really adding sandwich offerings. And in the Lord’s case, it is definitely not a good trade for them.

My wife and I both decided to try the Philly Cheese Steak. that when they ordered, we resolved to obtain nothing else; He thought he had enough sandwiches for dinner. But when I picked them up, I started to second guess it because I saw that they were much smaller than I had hoped.

As it turns out, the sandwiches are finally filled; but the fullness was short-lived. About 6 p.m. we eat and by 8 p.m. we were both hungry again.

I think the reason for this is not so much the size of the sandwich but the materials that are inside. I’ve been to various restaurants and ordered their version of the Philly cheesesteak. And since some are manifestly superior to others; Sandwiches overflowing with meat, pepper and green onions everyone is sure to have. Even if it is wiser, it is of lesser quality, but I still take it.

The oven baked Lord’s sandwiches did not do this. They had the same drugs; just less of them. When I first saw the sandwich, I didn’t even think there was anything inside. It looked like two pieces of bread and that’s about it. I can’t really complain about the flavors, but this was the first Philly cheesesteak sandwich I could eat without meat or vegetables overflowing onto my plate so I couldn’t help but get confused.

However, I will take a moment to say just as the sandwich bread was coming. Many subshops around town promise the best bread for their sandwiches. I think Domino’s actually topped them in that category. Very light and fluffy and freshly cooked, it had a very pleasant taste; he reminded me of the bread that we had eaten at the lusty Italian restaurant.

But there is more to a sandwich than bread. And, the full package, the sandwiches are in the oven, the sandwich maker says no, just don’t cut it. I would not give a failing grade; but I can think of half a dozen other places around town that are much better and I’ll go to one of them before ordering another sandwich from the Lord.
