Review: Mio DigiWalker C320 GPS

After looking for an inexpensive GPS system, the Mio Digiwalker C320. The C320 is one step above the entry level unit (C230) from Mio. It offers many features in GPS systems most viewed.

Features
The Mio DigiWalker C320 helps you find your way with many great features. It’s a 20-channel SiRFIII GPS chip that locates and tracks your location easily from multiple satellites. The C320 has 1.7 million points of interest out of the box. Points of interest (or POIs) are standard destinations that are superimposed on GPS systems. The POI C320 collection includes gas stations, hospitals and restaurants, to name a few.

The DigiWalker C320 sports maps for the contiguous United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. My C320 maps are from 2006, so some areas of construction threw it off. However, the C320 has a fast travel recalculation feature that got me around these areas. Users can also update maps by going to Mio’s website (there is a fee for new maps).

The C320 has the ability to display its map in 2D or 3D mode and has a “Night mode”. The night mode feature automatically adjusts the screen color and contrast for night driving.

The Mio DigiWalker C320 has voice and guided directions. You can either hear the GPS directions spoken or read them on the display. One downside to the C320 is the lack of a text-to-speech feature. That means not talking about individual street names for you. Instead of saying “right on Main Street in 200 yards,” the C320 will say “right in 200 yards.” This is the only drawback that I have experienced using the device.

The Mio DigiWalker C320 also includes an MP3 player and an SD card slot. You can load an SD card full of your favorite music and listen right from the GPS.

Design
The DigiWalker C320 has a 4.3 inch screen that can display 65,000 colors. It has a resolution of 480×272 pixels. The screen on the C320 is quite large, allowing the user to view maps more easily than on smaller GPS units. This was a major selling point when it came time for me to purchase the C320 GPS.

It was also thought to be shiny. It is only 0.5 inches thick and is quite cute. The DigiWalker C320 comes with a window mounted unit. The unit uses a suction cup to securely attach the C320 to your window. I was a little afraid that it would fall, but it never did. Connect the C320 with a mini-USB adapter and software to connect it to your computer.

Overall, I recommend the Mio DigiWalker C320 to anyone looking for a good value GPS system. I chose her and got the most bang for her buck.
