Review of the Hueston Woods State Park

Hueston Woods State Park is located in beautiful southwest Ohio. In the middle of the park, Acton Lake offers campers numerous activities including swimming, boating, and fishing. The hills are filled with a variety of trees, and wildlife abounds. On the hike you will see squirrels, raccoons, deer, and a variety of birds such as blue herons and hawks.

Activities at Hueston Woods State Park include camping, hiking, riding, mountain biking, boating, boating, swimming pools and , fishing, shooting, golfing, hunting. Programs include guided hikes, a nature center with living animals, a farmer’s market, and a Saturday night movie.

Campground

Hueston Woods State Park has 508 campsites available April through October. Of these, 252 provide electricity with 20-30 AMPs, allow care, and feature showers, flush toilets, laundry, trailer waste station (note: none are fully hook-up), fire rings, picnic table, and free WiFi (not tested). The other places are non-electric or equestrian.

Within the electric camping sites, Row A is the primary loop of pitching, darkened, level pull-through sites. A swimming pool, better equipment between the swings, a sand volleyball net, and a putt-putt course complete the fun.

Unfortunately, our campsite is located in Row D., while it also provides ample shade, the slanted loop has made flat sites less common. In addition, none of these sites are private, and there are many shared pads that are like two parking spaces next to each other. Not exactly an ideal condition-up. These classes also share beds and bathrooms with washers and dryers.

The bathing facilities are typical of public parks. Lack of privacy was my main complaint. There are three toilet stalls that use curtains for doors shower. These are difficult to seal, and small children can easily open them. The toilets are also not securely fastened and will rattle when you sit down. I heard another camper describe them as “Rock-N-Roll Toilets.”

Multiple showers connect the wall with clothing to each stall entrance. Curtains again provide privacy while a pedal bench, hook and shelf provide a suitable table. Water controllers are easy to operate, with no additional costs or costs to use. The pressure, though not excessive, is sufficient.

The floor, gray cement, remained permanently dirty with muddy nails. I didn’t know if I had stepped on an earthworm submerged in brown mud or too much moisture. However, to be fair, I don’t think floors are cleaned humanely. Before our arrival, rain flooded the area to the point of flash flooding. Even after our arrival the storms continued during the night.

Two final questions need to be addressed. First, cell phone coverage is almost non-existent. Even hiking to the top of the nearest hill didn’t provide any luck. Secondly, the supply of camps is shamefully lacking in attractiveness. Apart from wood and a few novelties, I did not see much to meet either my need or want.

Recommended Camping at Houston Forest State Park

Because of the park’s beauty and many activities, camping at Hueston Woods State Park is well worth the trip. Even minor inconveniences do not negate the value of this garden. Just make sure you choose Row A for the campsite!
