Review of the Westpoint Stevens Electric Blanket

Evenings in Alaska can get chilly, even in the summer months. Last year my husband and I bought a king size Westpoint Stevens Electric Blanket from years ago. (These are also marketed under the Martex name). We had been using our solar electric blanket for more than 10 years, and I wanted to replace it with a softer one. .

Neither of us knew anything about the Westpoint Stevens brand, so our decision was to spend only $120 on this blanket because it was so soft.

My thoughts on Westpoint Stevens

In terms of durability, this mattress lived up to my expectations. It’s amazing, and has a plush, velvety feel. The rich burgundy color is beautiful and goes well with the bedroom colors. Although they are really lacking when we compare them to the Sunbeam I have used for so many years.

It has a power button and two up and down buttons to control the heat. My problem with the design of the control is that the lighted LCD dims after use. It darkens so much that I can’t read in the dark! If I wake up in the middle of the night, I can’t tell which number is in control. When you press the buttons to either make the bed hot or cold, they make a loud clicking sound which I find very annoying. My old Sunbeam model had a dial that turned without a sound!

The controllers in my Westpoint often work correctly, and it is obvious that the controller design is faulty. (This happened because it was new). Sometimes (not always), when I try to change the temperature, nothing will happen. It’s like it doesn’t read my input. If you turn the control off completely, turn it back on and it will adjust the heat again. In the middle of the night when I’m half asleep, I can’t get these games to games. I am hot, I want

In comparison to my Sunbeam electric mattress, the Westpoint does not get hot. Even on the highest heat setting (level 15), I don’t always feel as warm as I’d like. The blanket comes with a 5 year warranty, and I’m thinking of contacting the company to see if experiencing problems would qualify for a replacement. I’ve read some reviews on this model, and the lack of heat is a common complaint.

Bottom line, the velvety soft fabric is heavenly, and unfortunately I haven’t found an electric blanket this soft from any other company. It’s too bad that the director does it so badly.
