Review: The Casio Exilim EX-Z80 8.1MP Digital Camera

Financially I had a great month at Affiliate Content, so I decided to use some of the money to buy myself a new camera. I had a Canon camera until recently, which I absolutely hated. So, when it came to buying a new camera, I decided to go back to the brand I loved – Casio Exilim. I have owned a Casio Exilim for 4 years and was able to take amazing pictures with it, last week I bought a new Casio Exilim camera – Casio Exilim EX-Z80.

Casio has several models from the digital era. Starting from the model that has a resolution of 6.1 MPs, they go up to the latest model with 10.1 megapixels. I quickly decided to choose the EX-Z80 as a medium camera. It has a resolution of 8.1 MPs, which after researching online I learned takes almost the same pictures as a camera with 10.1 (increasing megapixels is a gimmick by camera companies to keep you from “upgrading” the camera. My old Casio camera had a 4.1 megapixel resolution, and the pictures are almost the same as my novel).

When I selected the camera, I was pleased to see a large selection of colors available. I could have chosen the Casio Exilim EX-Z80 in black, pink, blue, green or gold, but I decided to go with the silver color. I felt I felt more classical. It also comes with a white leather case, so the camera is protected before you even start.

The Casio Exilim EX Z80 is small. It is 3.5 inches tall, just over 2 inches wide, with a height of .70 inches. It’s perfect to fit into a pocket or a small purse, so you can take it with you everywhere. It has a 2.6 inch LCD screen, which allows you to see the photo taken perfectly. Some cameras have a smaller LCD screen, so what you see on them doesn’t look the same when you get your camera home and start viewing the images on your computer. The Casio screen is so large that you can figure out any problems from the stove while you can still get it back.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z80 also has a 3 x Optical Zoom, so you can zoom in if you’re going further away. I’ve used it a few times and found the script to be a nice addition if you only zoom in on the side. However, if I zoom in all the way, the pictures come out a little grainy, so it’s probably not a feature I use much.

It also has a nifty little movie button, so you don’t have to mess with background changes if you want a movie. You just press the red ‘motion’ button on the back of the camera and it starts shooting. The quality of the movie is excellent too.

Some of the other features include:

Best shot – you can use this feature to get the ‘best shot’ possible. Also great.

Portrait or Portrait – this allows to have perfect images like “face” recognition. “The program, which makes people’s faces look clear and bright. The Self-Portrait feature takes great pictures while you’re holding it and pointing the lens at you.

Sceneryand Bridge with Scenery – if you use the scene feature, the pictures of the scenes are beautiful and Portrait with Scenery makes both the subject and the scene behind it look beautiful.

Pet – Excellent line if you care. I’ve used my tunnels and the feature works wonderfully as an extra fast shutter speed, because the animals tend to move a lot.

Flowers, Food and Fashion Accessories – These three features allow you to take the perfect flower; food or accessory photos all the time. It is a useful feature if you have a website or sell items on sites like EBay.

Monochrome or Retro – I am obsessed with these two forms. They allow you to take photographs either in black and white (monochrome) or in sepia brown tones 19th century. (back). Really gorgeous, and I’ve had a great time with them so far.

Night Scene – I tried the night feature at a night market in Bangkok last week and the pictures were awesome. Everything is in perfect focus, the subjects are clear and, thanks to the facial recognition software, you don’t get that scary face you sometimes have with other cameras at night.

Auction – Auction is fabulous for anyone who sells online. I used to sell on EBay and I always had a nightmare taking photos. Auction settings is an awesome tool, and it works very well. Your products are well lit and in perfect focus, which I found very difficult with my old camera.

Tu Tube – Casio Exilim has a YouTube capture feature that allows you to capture perfect videos to upload to YouTube .

Voice Recording – One of the main reasons I bought the Casio Exile was because of the voice recording feature. I have to report my voice for Teaching English classes and this is the perfect tool for that. You can use it to meet people, record lectures, make podcasts, whatever you want. It has a built-in microphone, it’s loud, and it can record for 3 1/2 hours.

Casio Exilim EX-Z80 Casio Exilim EX-Z80 has a battery life of between 3½ hours, about 210 images still before the Battle dies, about 3½ hours of voice recording and 1 hour of film. You can also plug into the TV directly to see pictures or video when you get home, and it happens when you make an AV cable.

Mine also comes with 2 free shutters and a free curtain (in Thailand, cameras usually come with a lot of free stuff). The price for me though in Thailand was higher than it would have been in the US. In Thailand, today it is sold for about $230, while in the US it is about $180 (it is cheaper on some sites). But the bottle wants to be free, and the price is made from the tank.

I would recommend the Casio Exilim EX-Z80 to anyone. It’s a stylish little camera that takes great photos and video, as well as voice recording, and fits in your pocket. My only complaint is the door you have to unhook to plug in the USB cable to the camera. It is very thin and I have a feeling that it will eventually break off. I will recommend a different approach to this in future models. Even if you don’t, it needs a big price, it’s a good price.
