While vacationing at Myrtle Beach, SC we wanted to take our two year old to Ripley’s Aquarium. The aquarium is located at Broadway At The Beach. Ripley’s Aquarium boasts the title of the “most visited attraction in Myrtle Beach, SC. There are many wonderful photo opportunities located throughout the aquarium, so do not forget to bring your camera!
The admission prices to the aquarium are like everything else in Myrtle Beach-quite pricey. However, to see a wonderful aquarium and get involved with all of the activites that Ripley’s Aquarium has to offer is worth the price. For two adults, one two year old and an infant we paid around $42. Although we found coupons for most other attractions in the area, there were none to be found for the aquarium. Unless you wanted to visit all four of the Ripley’s attractions at the beach for a discounted price, coupons do not exist.
Once inside of Ripley’s Aquarium, were free to wonder the museum as we wanted. On the upper level there were learning labs with live presentations and the “travleing exhibit” that frequently changes. This particular time the exhibit was based around pirates. The room was very interesting and captivated life as a pirate on the open sea. From the upper level, guests can also see the tops of the aquarium and touch the sting rays as they swim upwards. The lower level is where the main aquariums are located as well as the rest of the interactive exhibits for guests to enjoy. One of the most popular exhibits is the horeshoe tank. Visitors are able to pick up and hold the horeshoe crabs in this area. Puzzles and other interactive activities are also available for children and adults to explore.
Tanks of jellyfish,.octopus and other fish are located in a room that guests can view. Live dive shows take place every other hour. Plan to join the divers for an exciting and entertaining presentation. Once you step onto ‘Rainbow Road’ you are in for a special treat. Different kinds of fish, sharks and sealife swim all around you as you continue on the moving floor that takes you through the aquarium. Guests can step off of the “trail” at any time to further enjoy the aquarium and there is no limit as to how many times you go through.
The aquarium has a very nice gift shop located on the upper level. Unfortunate for some guests, you do have to go through the gift shop to exit the museum. There is no other way out.
