When you have 3 children under the age of 10, chances are you’ll experience sleepless nights at least occasionally. You might be wondering if there are any products that are actually safe to give to your child to help him/her sleep. I used to believe there were no safe options, until I did a little research of my own. I’m pleased to announce that though we used to suffer through the grumpy mornings caused by fitful sleeping, we don’t anymore! Read on to discover which sleep aids are safe enough for your children.
Chamomile-Catnip
This wonderful product is a mild sedative, and can be especially helpful during a time of anxiety or over-excitement. Made from a combination of organic herbs, it is bottled in vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. The oil is flavored with freshly extracted juices, or natural fruit concentrates so that your child will enjoy taking the supplement.
Manufactured by Eclectic Institute, this safe sleep aid contains: Certified Organic Chamomile, Certified Organic Catnip, Fresh Elder Flower, Certified Organic Lemon Balm, Certified Organic Hyssop, Certified Organic Peppermint, and Kosher vegetable glycerine.
Directions for use: mix 15 to 30 drops in warm water and drink the tea up to 5 times daily. My children enjoy the taste of this sweet tea about 30 minutes before bedtime. I’ve also served it up at high-octane events like cousin sleepovers, and even Christmas Eve!
You can find this product at most online health stores, but makes sure you purchase the Kids version to ensure the sleep aid is safe for children.
Valerian – Passion Flower
Another product offered by Eclectic Institute is also a safe sleep aid for children and comes highly recommended to you. This combination has a relaxing effect on the nervous system, and helps ease stress, tension, nervousness, and sleeplessness. It promotes restful sleep. This can be taken during the day without any drowsiness.
This formula contains: Fresh Wildcrafted Valerian, Fresh Certified Organic Passion Flower, Fresh Certified Organic Chamomile, Dried Hops, Dried Anise, and Kosher vegetable glycerine.
Directions for use: Follow the same guidelines as above; however, I tend to use this mainly during times of distress. For example, if there’s anything stressful going on in the household that affects the child, a test coming up at school, maybe even an illness going through the community. Again, be sure and purchase the Kids formula.
Hyland’s Calms Forte 4 Kids
Sleepless nights can be heartbreaking, as well as exhausting, for both you and your child. Calms Forte 4 Kids is a safe sleep aid for children that helps re-establish rejuvenating sleep patterns. If your child is of school-age, taking this product will not cause grogginess. He/she will still be alert first thing in the morning!
A homeopathic formulation, it is made of all natural, safe, and effective ingredients. The tablets dissolve instantly in the mouth. My children still struggle to swallow tablets, so this is a definite plus. Formulated for children ages 2 and up, there are no side effects. I was thrilled to discover we could use this with other medications without any contraindications.
Their exclusive formula is useful for easing the following conditions:
· Physical and mental restlessness
·: Dissolve 2 tablets on tongue before bedtime. This can also be taken if a child wakes up in the night.
Triple Complex Sleep Tonic
We keep this fantastic product on hand at all times in our household because it is a safe and natural sleep aid for children, babies, and adults. Free of artificial flavors, colorants, and preservatives, it is also a homeopathic formula, which makes it all natural and safe.
The main ingredients are Calcium Sulphate D6, Magnesium Phosphate D6, and Calcium Phosphate D6 which are all tissue salts the body needs to regulate important functions. Restore these vital salts to their optimal level, and the body will naturally restore wellbeing and regular sleep patterns.
Directions for use: Dissolve 2-4 tables in mouth up to 3 times daily. Take the last dose about 15 minutes before bedtime. If you are giving these to a toddler, it’s perfectly fine to crush the tablet and sprinkle on the tongue or mix in water.
So, these are my recommendations for sleep aids that are safe enough for your children. They can be purchased at most local health stores or online. Try one or more until you find the formula that works for you and your family!
