One of the many concerns for the American road warrior is safety. The car manufacturers have done their best to show that their car is the safest in its class. This article will showcase and compare just a few of the newest models for 2010. There are many new cars that are trying to be the safest on the road. I drive a family car/ sedan on a regular basis and wanted to see which sedans are considered the safest for model year 2010.
Let’s start with one company that’s name has been linked with safety more than any other, Volvo. Their entry into the safety war is the stunning 2010 Volvo S60. Volvo has gone away from their super safety conscious boxy cars to a very sleek, aggressive look. What Volvo hasn’t done is stray away from their ability to keep us safe. The S60 has some very new technology that will keep many pedestrians safer in the event of a low speed accident. If a pedestrian enters the danger zone by walking out in front of the vehicle, the S60 has the ability to apply full automatic brake pressure even if the driver does not respond to the imminent danger. In most cases, Volvo states that the collision force to pedestrians can be reduced by up to 75 percent. That is some astounding numbers!! This is part of Volvo’s Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake System. This system will also warn the driver in a case of imminent collision with another vehicle. It gives a warning light on the windscreen display that looks like a brake light. If the driver doesn’t respond to the warning, the S60 will then apply full brake pressure to help stop the vehicle before impact. The other standout safety feature is the Adaptive Cruise Control. This new take on will allow the car to keep a specific distance from the vehicle in front of it even if the flow of traffic comes to a standstill. I think those are some pretty neat features to have on a car. The MSRP is $32,800-$36,400. The next car I will be covering is the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta sedan. This car has five star side crash ratings as well as for rollovers. It also has a pretty cool feature taken from the world of truck driving. This feature is engine assisted braking. It also comes with the standard anti-lock brakes as well as power brake distribution. Not a bad set of safety features. The MSRP is $22,175-$32,275. Find out more here: http://www.leftlanenews.com/volkswagen-jetta-sedan.html#safety
Next, we will take a look at the 2010 Ford Fusion. This year Ford has taken the next step to safety with the addition of the Blind Spot indicator. This device will warn you when a vehicle has entered into the blind spot of your vehicle allowing you to make the proper adjustments to avoid any collisions. They have also added a camera to assist you with backing up and parking in tight spaces. The MSRP is $19,270-$27,270. The next vehicle we will visit with is the 2010 Chevrolet Impala. This sedan has gotten five star ratings on frontal crashes as well as side crashes for the front passengers. It features the standard amount of airbags with the inclusion of the head airbag in the front of the vehicle. It has four wheel anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control.
