I love playing Scrabble. I can’t imagine any writer not loving a game that revolves around words. That’s why, when I saw the TV commercial for the Scrabble Slam Card Game, I knew I had to buy it. Like the original Scrabble, the object of the game is to make words out of letters. Hasbro has made the Scrabble Slam Card Game a little more difficult, though, because the cards you play are handled with a twist. No exchange. And , the terms are only four letters long. Product Description and Playing Instructions
Scrabble Slam Card Game is basically a deck of 55 letter chests and instructions. It’s designed for 2 – 4 players ages 8 and up. To begin, the player thinks of a four-letter word. The word is then drawn with matching letters on the paper. The remaining cards are then passed to all players. Each card has two letters on it, one on the front and one on the back. Both letters are written in the upper left hand corner so you don’t have to remind the Scrabble Slam Card game cards over you. There are also blank “wild cards” to be used.
Then one player hollers, “Ready, set, Slam!” action begins and fast. You don’t really get a turn in the Scrabble Slam Card Game. Everyone is just shouting a new word that they are going to change the dirty word. As fast as they can, they also pushed the letter from their hands onto the table to explain their new word. Only one letter card can be played at a time in the Scrabble Slam Card Game. As with the original Scrabble, names of places or organizations were allowed without proper names. Make each word so that it can be discussed by other players as well.
The first player to remove all of their cards wins the Scrabble Slam Card Game. If no one can change the dirty word, the player with the least number of cards wins.
Product Test and conclusion
I highly recommend the Scrabble Slam Card Game. A game can take about ten minutes if you have a good group of players. We think it’s more fun if track games wins for each player. We want to have a “Champ” when we finally play the Scrabble Slam Card Game.
It’s too bad that Hasbro didn’t include a plastic lance to house the four cards. Stacks of cards are usually moved around and shuffled together as each player pushes a card down. Otherwise, the Scrabble Slam Card Game gets the thumbs up.
