Seattle Day Trips: Bainbridge Island

To get to the Island from Seattle, go to Pier 52 to catch a ferry then sit back and relax for the 35-minute scenic ride. Unless you want to explore the entire island by car, you really don’t need to take your vehicle on the ferry. Downtown Bainbridge Island is about a five minute walk from the ferry terminal and most things to do and see are within walking distance. The walk from the terminal to the airport is steep, but not at all steep. I am completely out of shape and he did it just fine. And, it’s a plus you should go down with the ferry to head back after a long day (or weekend) of enjoying all that Iceland has to offer.

However, if you want to bring your car and run on bio-diesel, you’re in luck – there’s a station right up the street from the terminal where you can fill up before driving around island or head to Seattle.

Or, if coffee and tea are more your style, check out one of the many great local cafes and teahouses, like Blackbird Bakery, Café Trios, Andante Coffee, Luna Asian-Style Teahouse August, or Pegasus Coffee House.

One of the most famous stops on Bainbridge Island – and one you might want to miss – is Mora Iced Creamery.
